Nuan Nuan Runs Away

Sheng Xuezhu gets home from work. She finds the apartment quiet. Too quiet. Sheng Bijie and Bai Yufei made dinner, but Nuan Nuan is nowhere to be found. Xuezhu checks her room. She finds a note.

Nuan Nuan is gone.

The note says it all. Nuan Nuan knows she isn't Xuezhu's biological daughter. She thinks she's a burden to Xuezhu and Yu Leshan. So she just left.

Panic sets in immediately. Xuezhu calls Nuan Nuan's friends and teachers. No one knows anything. Yu Leshan rushes over as soon as he hears. He, Xuezhu, and Sheng Bailing split up. They check the bus and train stations. Everyone searches all night long. They find nothing.

The Search and the Storm

Nuan Nuan is on a long-distance bus. She's heading to Nanling Town. She wants to find her birth parents. She falls asleep on the bus and misses her stop. She gets off and starts walking back. The walk to Nanling Town is long. She gets completely exhausted and ends up lost in the woods.

Back at the bus station, Yu Leshan gets a lead. He learns Nuan Nuan bought a ticket to Nanling Town. He grabs Xuezhu and Bailing, and they drive there immediately. Xie Jingsi and Chen Zhiqiang show up to help with the search. Leshan correctly guesses she probably got lost in the woods. He tells Xuezhu and Bailing to wait in the village while he, Guo Hongqi, and Chen Zhiqiang search the forest.

While this is happening, Qiao Zhengjun is at a meeting. He's about to be promoted to General Manager of the city construction company. He hears a weather forecast about heavy rain but doesn't think much of it. Then, a broadcast comes on the radio. It's an announcement about a missing girl. It's Nuan Nuan. He starts to panic.

A Hero's Price

Yu Leshan keeps searching the woods alone. He finally finds Nuan Nuan. Her ankle is sprained. He doesn't say a word. He just puts her on his back and starts carrying her.

Then the sky opens up. A massive thunderstorm hits. Leshan carries Nuan Nuan to a small wooden cabin to wait out the rain. But the storm is brutal. The wind and rain snap a huge tree branch. It comes crashing down on the cabin. Leshan shoves Nuan Nuan out of the way just in time. The cabin collapses. He gets buried under the debris.

Xuezhu and a group of villagers find them. They dig Leshan out and rush him to the hospital. The doctors save his life. But the news is bad. He has a severe brain injury and is in a coma. The doctor says he might never wake up. He could be in a vegetative state forever. Xuezhu just stares at him lying in the hospital bed, completely broken.

The Truth and the Fallout

Nuan Nuan is also in the hospital. She has a high fever from the rain and the shock. Xuezhu stays by her side after her fever breaks.

Later, Xuezhu takes Nuan Nuan somewhere important. She takes her to two graves. One belongs to Qu Fangfei. The other belongs to her mother. Xuezhu finally tells Nuan Nuan the whole truth. Qu Fangfei was her biological mother. Nuan Nuan completely breaks down. Xuezhu explains that even though she is her aunt, she has always loved her like her own daughter. Nuan Nuan cries and apologizes. She promises she will never run away again.

Meanwhile, two reporters from Beijing arrive. They received a letter from Yu Leshan and came to interview him. Guo Hongqi finds them and explains everything that happened.

Everything Falls Apart

Things get even worse. The new City Cultural Center building suddenly collapses. All the workers on site are buried inside. Qiao Zhengjun hears the news and rushes to the scene. His boss, Mr. Wang, puts him in charge of the investigation.

But then something changes. A secretary whispers something to Mr. Wang. Suddenly, Wang takes Qiao Zhengjun off the case. Zhengjun finds out why. The reporters from Beijing are investigating the truth about Yu Leshan's company. His old associate, Hou Ming, has confessed everything. The walls are closing in on him.

As if that's not enough, there's one more piece of terrible news. Qiao Zhengjun's son, Ran Ran, gets a nosebleed. His grandmother takes him to the hospital. The diagnosis is devastating. Ran Ran has leukemia. The doctor says the best hope is a stem cell transplant. They need to find a match, starting with his siblings.
