Quan Rumu's Tragic Backstory

Quan Rumu finally tracks down Wangquan Fugui and Qingtong. He seems surprised to find Fugui so relaxed here. He's way more at ease than he ever was at the Wangquan Mountain Villa. Fugui just keeps carving a wooden sword, ignoring him at first. Rumu can't figure out who pushed Fugui to this point. But he has a pretty good guess. It was Quan Jingting, their father.

Then, Rumu suddenly coughs up a mouthful of blood. Fugui rushes over to check on him. He discovers Rumu's internal energy channels are completely destroyed. He demands to know who did this to him. Rumu doesn't answer directly. Instead, he tells the whole story about him and a woman named Long Weiyun.

A Father's Cruelty

The story starts with their father, Quan Jingting. He went to the Western Regions and deceived a dragon demon. That demon happened to be Long Weiyun's mother. So, Weiyun later kidnapped Rumu to get revenge on Jingting. The plan backfired. Jingting didn't care at all if Rumu lived or died.

This left Rumu and Weiyun to fend for themselves. They started to rely on each other. Rumu eventually brought Weiyun's mother's remains back home. This act triggered a vision for Weiyun. She saw her mother's final, painful moments. Jingting had scraped off her scales and cut off her horns. Seeing this made Weiyun's hatred for Jingting absolute.

A Cursed Love

A dragon spirit gave Weiyun a sacred clan artifact. It was called the Water-Controlling Pearl. Weiyun was so focused on revenge that she tried to absorb its power immediately. Her own strength was unstable at the time. The attempt failed. After that, she started hating Rumu for reasons he couldn't understand.

Later, she took him to the dragon clan's special habitat. It's a place where dragons bring people they love. It was also Rumu's birthday. She asked him if he liked her. He was so excited and confessed his feelings. He even gave her a gift. Her gift to him was much different. She summoned a snowstorm and planted a "love gu" inside him. This is a type of magical curse. It forced him to suffer the physical pain from her failed attempt to absorb the pearl.

Rumu went through a lot of pain. But he tells Fugui he doesn't blame Weiyun for it. Fugui thinks his brother is a fool for feeling that way. I'm with Fugui on this one. Rumu, however, seems almost happy to have suffered for her.

The Day Everything Broke

Jingting also wanted the pearl's power. He found Weiyun and provoked her on purpose. She couldn't handle the pearl's energy and lost control. She went on a rampage, heading straight for a town. Rumu used every bit of his strength to stop her.

Both of them were badly injured in the fight. The Water-Controlling Pearl was lost. Rumu then used up all of his remaining spiritual energy to save Weiyun's life. That is what ultimately destroyed his body. When Weiyun woke up, she was overwhelmed with guilt and just left. Rumu has been searching for her ever since.

A Power Grab at the Alliance

After hearing this whole story, Fugui makes a quiet promise. He will not let Rumu die as long as he is around.

Bad News from Home

A message arrives from Lady Yin. There is serious trouble at the Yiqi Alliance. Wangquan Hongye's fate is unknown. He could be dead or alive. Rumu immediately wants to rush back to help. Fugui knows this is a bad idea. They can't just run in without a plan.

The New Man in Charge

Fugui's caution is justified. We learn that Quan Jingting has placed Wangquan Hongye under house arrest. Jingting has now taken over as the head of the family. His first order is to command an attack on the East City for revenge.
