A New Town, New Problems
A Not-So-Warm Welcome
Wangquan Fugui and Qingtong finally make it to Peach Blossom Valley. This place is supposed to be a paradise. Humans and demons live together in harmony. It looks pretty idyllic.
They meet a young Leopard Demon named Ah Jiu. She leads them to the home of a man named Zhang Qi. The only problem is Zhang Qi isn't home. So they have to wait. Ah Jiu is immediately suspicious of them. She tries to drug their tea. Qingtong spots it right away and gives Fugui a heads-up.
Later that night, they see Ah Jiu sneak out. They follow her. She’s convinced they’re here to cause trouble for Zhang Qi. So she summons a poisonous miasma from the surrounding area. Fugui throws up a magic barrier to protect them. But the miasma still gets to Qingtong. She starts hallucinating.
While out of it, Qingtong talks about her little pet duck, also named Fugui. She wishes the real Fugui could be more like the duck. She knows he brought her here to say goodbye and set her free. But she doesn't want to leave him. She worries about who would take care of him if she was gone. He barely speaks a full sentence in a day without her around.
Fugui's Real Mission
The next morning, the miasma is gone. Qingtong wakes up, worried she said something stupid. Fugui lies and tells her she just slept very deeply. Smooth.
Ah Jiu shows up again, this time with a big stick. She plans to knock them out and hand them over to Zhang Qi. She thinks all people from the Yiqi Alliance are monsters. She says she’s just protecting her village. Fugui tells her to calm down. He’s here to help Zhang Qi, not hurt him. Qingtong thinks the little demon looks familiar and decides to keep an eye on her.
Digging for Clues
The Intel Broker
We learn that Ah Jiu has been competing with a group called the Thousand Silk Cave. They both deal in intelligence. Qingtong wants to get her hands on all of Ah Jiu's intel books.
Fugui finally gets his meeting with Zhang Qi. Zhang Qi also assumes Fugui is here to kill demons. Fugui sets him straight. He's investigating an evil medicine that came from this valley. Zhang Qi agrees to look into it, but he says it will take some time.
Meanwhile, Qingtong makes a discovery. Ah Jiu has been selling information on every single person in Peach Blossom Valley. Zhang Qi doesn't seem surprised by this at all. Qingtong finds herself loving this peaceful town. It feels like a dream, and she hopes it doesn't end. Fugui goes through Ah Jiu’s books. He finds that the information on a few people doesn't match the files he already has.
Crossing Off Suspects
Fugui and Qingtong track down a man named Xu Feng. This is the guy who once stopped Fugui's carriage to challenge him. They ask him a few questions. He gives them two fish for their trouble. Fugui decides he’s not their guy. After checking out a snake demon, their list of suspects is down to just a deer demon.
The Valley's Founders and a Warning
A Demon's Devotion
Back at Zhang Qi's house, they meet a butterfly demon named Qing Li. Qingtong is curious about how she and Zhang Qi met.
Zhang Qi tells them his story. He spent seven years in the mountains trying to get the miasma under control. In his fifth year, he saved Qing Li. To repay his kindness, she started visiting him in Peach Blossom Valley. He wanted to build a world where humans and demons could coexist. She decided to help him build it.
The Trap is Sprung
Fugui listens to their story. Then he calmly tells them the entrance to Peach Blossom Valley has been sealed. Nobody is getting in or out.
