Spoiler Alert
Man-Sis Makes Her Own News
I knew Man-Sis wasn't going to just sit around. She walked right back into SNK News. She wanted to know about the investigation into George King's death. Cathy was there, of course. She told Man-Sis the investigation committee was already gone. She also said Man-Sis was asking as a private citizen. So, the news department didn't have to answer her. It was a classic power move.
The Helicopter Broadcast
Just then, a story broke. A building collapsed. Man-Sis didn't waste a second. She rented a private helicopter. She went straight to the scene and started broadcasting from the air. Her personal channel's traffic exploded.
Cathy's sister, Xu Shiyun, saw the broadcast. She immediately called the police to get the helicopter out of there. Man-Sis got the official order to leave. But right before she did, she spotted something. The water tank on the building next door had a huge crack. She sent a quick message to Lau Yim.
A Second Disaster Averted
Lau Yim got the text and ran. She found the water tank inside the building. She also discovered a gas leak. The whole place could blow at any moment. She reported it to the fire department. Then she started getting all the residents out of the building.
Minutes later, it happened. A massive explosion rocked the area. Man-Sis felt the shockwave from her helicopter. The live feed from the ground cut out completely. Kit was watching the whole thing unfold. He was thrilled with the rising viewer numbers. Then he heard the explosion and his excitement turned to worry.
After some time, things calmed down. SNK News reported that nobody was hurt in the second blast. Kit could finally breathe again.
The Aftermath and the Blame Game
Ka-yin was on a nearby rooftop. She saw someone trapped in the rubble of the first collapse. She rushed down to help. The fire department arrived and pulled the injured person out. Ka-yin is a pro. She had another reporter go live from the scene. She then followed the ambulance to the hospital.
Ivan's Power Play
Ivan called Man-Sis's phone. Kit answered instead. Ivan wanted to buy the exclusive footage Man-Sis shot from the air. Kit suggested they trade for it at market value. This made Ivan furious. He immediately ordered his team to start a smear campaign against Man-Sis.
As soon as Man-Sis's helicopter landed, the police were waiting. They took her away for questioning.
Ka-yin's Investigation
At the hospital, Ka-yin interviewed one of the survivors. She learned something important. The building didn't collapse because of bad construction. Someone had ordered a load-bearing wall to be demolished.
She went back to the SNK office. People were already talking about her handling of the situation. Poon Ji-ngo snidely remarked that she was just a cheap copy of Man-Sis. Ka-yin was angry but kept it to herself. Her disappointment with the company just kept growing.
Everyone Wants Man-Sis's Footage
Lau Yim was still at the collapse site. She was trying to find an angle for a story. She knew she had basically zero audience. She started thinking about getting the helicopter video from Man-Sis. A colleague reminded her that every news outlet in Hong Kong wanted that footage. But Lau Yim had a theory. She thought Man-Sis was using the footage to mess with SNK. She figured the window of opportunity was small, so she might have a chance.
The Bidding War Begins
Man-Sis finally got her phone back. It was flooded with missed calls. Kit asked her who she planned to give the video to. She didn't tell him.
Ivan met with Mrs. Fong. Mrs. Fong wanted Man-Sis's video. She was willing to pay a very high price for it. Ivan thought it was a bad investment. Mrs. Fong insisted. So, Ivan had to try.
Cathy was also in hot water. She was getting complaints for shooting down a drone on her own. The government news department wanted to make a show of recruiting Man-Sis. This meant Cathy had to be the one to meet with her. They both knew it was all for show. The meeting was surprisingly relaxed. It felt more like two old friends catching up.
Man-Sis Sets Her Price
Ivan invited Man-Sis to SNK to talk business. He told her he didn't just want the video. He wanted her to come back to the company. Man-Sis laid out her terms. If she came back, her job title had to be higher than Ivan's. He obviously refused.
Later, Lau Yim found Man-Sis at a car repair shop. Man-Sis was completely dismissive. She told Lau Yim that she couldn't afford the footage. Passion and a sense of justice don't pay the bills.
Back at SNK, Ivan heard that Ka-yin had interviewed a construction worker. He demanded she hand over the interview tape. Ka-yin was getting her team ready to investigate the load-bearing wall story. Ivan walked in and shut it down. He announced that he had just bought the exclusive helicopter video from Man-Sis. He ordered Ka-yin to drop her investigation. Her new job was to prepare for the primetime news using Man-Sis's footage.
