Episode Summary
Man Wai-sam rejects a job offer and instead buys Lau Yim's new media platform, creating her own power base. At SNK News, Cheung Ka-yin faces a rebellion from staffers still loyal to Man. The conflict comes to a head during coverage of a tenants' meeting, where a woman named Sister Fun takes the building manager hostage over a financial dispute. After SNK News smears her on air, Sister Fun demands that Man Wai-sam personally use SNK's network to clear her name, leading to a tense rooftop standoff.
Spoiler Alert
Man Wai-sam Makes Her Next Move
So, Man Wai-sam is officially out of SNK News. For now. But if you thought she was just going to sit at home and watch TV, you don't know Man at all. She's already plotting.
A New Media Empire
Lau Yim is tired of corporate rules. She tells Ma Ka-ming she wants to start her own new media company. She wants to do real journalism without being tied down. Ma Ka-ming is all in. He says he'll quit with her and help her chase that dream.
Meanwhile, SNK News decides not to air the video Man Wai-sam got. Cheung Ka-yin talked them out of it. She argued that they have enough evidence to report the truth about the building collapse. She also made a smart point. If they rely on Man's video, it makes everyone else at SNK look incompetent.
Lau Yim doesn't wait for anyone. She posts the true cause of the explosion on her own public media platform. The building collapse story is finally put to bed. A rival network, e-News, tries to recruit Man Wai-sam. She shuts them down flat. Instead, she writes a massive check and buys Lau Yim's entire platform. Just like that, Man is back in the game, but on her own terms. She's building her own thing instead of joining another network to fight SNK. Mrs. Fong, her powerful backer, is pleased with the move.
Trouble at SNK News
Back at the old office, things are tense. Cheung Ka-yin is the new boss, and not everyone is happy about it.
The "Man's Army" Rebellion
Ka-yin tries to make a nice gesture. She buys a new coffee machine for the office. Poon Ji-ngo, a die-hard Man loyalist, immediately leads a boycott. He declares he's part of "Man's Army" and won't be swayed. Ka-yin tells him to grow up. She says his little protest is pointless. Man's future at SNK is up to the executives, not him.
The next morning, Poon passive-aggressively brings tea bags for everyone. He then clashes with Ka-yin over a story pitch. Their boss, Koo Chiu-wah, shows up and calls for a vote. It's a tie. Koo Chiu-wah breaks the tie by voting for Poon's idea. But afterward, he pulls Poon aside. He warns him to cut it out with the petty office games.
A Story Goes Sideways
Man's new platform decides to cover an owners' meeting at a place called Yiu Shan Building. SNK News thinks the story is small potatoes. They only send a few interns to cover it. Ma Ka-ming feels insulted. He thinks Man sees him and Lau Yim as interns, too. Lau Yim disagrees. She believes every news story deserves their full attention.
At the meeting, the building manager, Mr. Chong, says the building is ancient and needs immediate repairs. But another owner, a woman named Sister Fun, stands up. She calls him a liar. She says the whole repair bid is a scam to steal money.
This is where it gets messy. Two of the SNK interns use their family connections to buy a lead and then just leave. The only one left is Siu Tin, an intern with no connections. Man Wai-sam, of course, is already ten steps ahead. She had already investigated, talked to residents, and gotten the repair budget details from Sister Fun herself. Man spotted something fishy in the numbers and sent it back to Sister Fun right before the meeting.
The Rooftop Standoff
Armed with this new information, Sister Fun makes a drastic move.
Sister Fun's Desperation
She pulls out a dagger in the middle of the meeting. She holds it to Mr. Chong and demands he explain the doctored budget. Lau Yim is livestreaming the whole thing and panics. She calls Man Wai-sam. Man is completely calm. She tells Lau Yim to just keep the cameras rolling.
The SNK interns who left dig up dirt on Sister Fun. They find out she runs a massage parlor and had debt collectors after her. They report this to Koo Chiu-wah. He tells them to run with it. He wants them to frame the story so it implies she's in a shady line of work. SNK News immediately broadcasts this attack on her character.
On the livestream, you can see Sister Fun getting more and more agitated by the SNK report. A police negotiator arrives. Lau Yim tries to help. She tells Sister Fun that her livestream has a huge audience. She promises they can use it to clear her name.
A Demand for the Queen
Sister Fun agrees to let the other elderly owners go. But she has one condition. She wants to see Man Wai-sam.
Man arrives at the chaotic scene. By now, Sister Fun has dragged Mr. Chong up to the building's rooftop. She's threatening to jump and take him with her. Man approaches calmly. She tells Sister Fun she's been following the repair issue for a while. She has already handed over the suspicious financial records to the police and the anti-corruption agency. She promises to keep covering the story on her new platform.
But Sister Fun isn't satisfied. That's not enough. She looks at Man and makes her final demand. She wants Man Wai-sam to clear her name on SNK News, the biggest and most powerful news network in the city.
