Episode Summary
The rivalry between Wei Yun and Gu Chusheng for Chu Yu's affection intensifies. Wei Yun successfully sabotages his own matchmaking event, while Chu Yu continues to favor him. In a heartbreaking subplot, Song Qingping confesses her love to Chu Linyang and is rejected. Finally, Wei Yun and Chu Yu use her son as a pretext to infiltrate the Yao residence and check on the captive Yao Jue.

The Tavern Love Triangle
The episode kicks off at Chu Yu's favorite tavern. She's there, and so is Gu Chusheng. He thought this was their special spot. He was wrong. Wei Yun is also there. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Gu Chusheng immediately tries to assert his position. He reminds Wei Yun that Chu Yu is married to his older brother, Wei Jun. It's a low blow. But Wei Yun has a comeback ready. He throws Gu Chusheng's own words right back at him. Wei Yun knows the marriage isn't real. So, he asks, why should he stay away?
Just then, Chu Yu sobers up a bit and cuts off their argument. She completely ignores Gu Chusheng. It's a total freeze-out. Wei Yun then leads her away, walking right past Gu Chusheng like a conquering hero. That one had to sting.
A Drunken Dance and a Failed Matchmaker
Wei Yun is Down Bad
Back at the Wei family home, Chu Yu is still pretty drunk. She starts dancing by herself under a flowering tree. Wei Yun just stands there watching her. He is completely mesmerized. I mean, the guy is gone for her.
She gives him a single Haitang flower. He treats it like a holy relic. He even uses precious morning dew to keep it fresh. His sister, Wei Qiu, sees the whole thing. She knows exactly how deep her brother's feelings run.
Sabotaging the Blind Dates
The next day, Chu Yu wakes up. Her maid, Wanyue, tells her that Wei Yun brought her home. He didn't do anything weird. He just left her some hangover soup, which is a solid move.
But the house is buzzing with activity. The Second Madam, Jiang Chun, has invited a whole group of single ladies to meet Wei Yun. She’s trying to set him up. Chu Yu comes over to watch the spectacle.
Wei Yun decides to sabotage the entire event. He tells the women that he's a soldier. He says he's definitely going to war. He might even die in battle and be buried on the field. This, predictably, scares off all the potential brides. None of them want to sign up to be a young widow. They all back out.
I'm pretty sure Jiang Chun suspects something is going on between Wei Yun and Chu Yu. That's why she's in such a hurry to marry him off. In front of her, though, Wei Yun can't admit he likes Chu Yu. He just lies and says there's no one he's interested in.
Unrequited Love and Rejection
Song Qingping's Confession
We check in on Song Qingping giving acupuncture to Chu Linyang. She's clearly distracted. He asks her what's wrong.
She explains that her coming-of-age ceremony is next month. The Emperor is already arranging her marriage to the Crown Prince, Li Huan. She does not like Li Huan at all. She's miserable about the whole situation.
Then she confesses her real feelings. She tells Chu Linyang she was never treating his illness just for Chu Yu's sake. She was doing it for herself. Then she just comes out and asks him. Will you marry me?
He already knew how she felt about him. But he still has to reject her. It's a tough scene to watch.
Chu Jin's Marriage Calculation
Her brother, Song Wenchang, is having a much better day. He spends it with Chu Jin. They play games and go horse riding, and he has her smiling the whole time.
Chu Jin is exhausted by the end of it. But Song Wenchang seems like he could have kept going all night. Later, she thinks about him as a potential husband. He comes from a good family. He is very handsome. He's considered a top-tier catch in the city.
But here's the most important part for her. He isn't ambitious. Chu Jin believes she could easily control him if they got married. Her only complaint is that he's not very romantic. But she thinks that's something she can fix after the wedding.
The Rescue Mission Begins
Things at the Yao household are grim. Yao Jue let Wei Yun escape. She also went into her father's study without permission.
Her father, Yao Yong, is furious. He grabs her by the throat and threatens her life. It's a terrifying moment.
Just then, Wei Yun and Chu Yu arrive. They've brought Yao Jue's young son, Wei Lingmo, with them. The boy says he misses his mother. Yao Yong tries to lie his way out of it. He claims Yao Jue has a bad cold and is contagious.
Wei Yun and Chu Yu don't fall for it. They say they didn't come all this way for nothing. They suggest that Wei Lingmo can just see his mother from across the room, through a doorway.
Yao Yong agrees. He probably thinks this won't affect his control over her. He takes the boy to see his mother. As they walk, Wei Yun and Chu Yu follow right behind them. Their plan is officially underway.
