He Lihua refuses to sell the living room sofa. It was her late husband Feng Zhi’s favorite. Just then, court officials arrive at the door. They serve the family an eviction notice. They have one week to get out. He Lihua has no choice but to sign the papers.
A Mother's Blame
Shen Mingzhu offers her marital home to He Lihua and Feng Meiqi. This is where He Lihua completely snaps. She calls Mingzhu a jinx. She screams that Mingzhu is responsible for her son Feng Jianqi's death. And now she's responsible for Feng Zhi's death, too. She says their family is destroyed because of her.
Feng Meiqi breaks down completely. She starts sobbing and says this is all her fault. He Lihua, despite her own grief and anger, pulls her daughter into a tight hug. She tries to comfort her.
Friends and Family Step Up
A Father's Sacrifice
Xu Dacheng hears that the Fengs are selling their furniture. He decides he has to do something. He tries to sell his own treasured three-wheeled motorcycle. He wants to use the money to buy their furniture back for them.
But the plan hits a snag. He takes the motorcycle to a shop. The owner tells him it's old and not worth much. He only offers him money for the license plate. Xu Dacheng gets angry and refuses to sell.
The Siblings' Secret Plan
While her dad is trying to help, Xu Zhixia is dealing with her own crisis. Her popular online account was shut down. Because of this, the lipstick brand she was working with cancels her contract. The representative, Sam, won't listen to her pleas.
Her brother, Xu Zhidong, then sets up a meeting with her. He has a clever plan. He suggests they each chip in 20,000. They can pretend to buy their dad's motorcycle from him. This will give Xu Dacheng the money he needs to help Shen Mingzhu's family without hurting his pride. Xu Zhixia agrees immediately.
One Last Supper, One More Secret
Feng Zhi's Other Family?
He Lihua cooks one last big meal for them in the house. She apologizes to Shen Mingzhu and Feng Meiqi for her outburst. It's a sad, quiet dinner. Then there is a knock at the door.
A woman named Ding Hong is standing there with a young boy. She claims the boy is Feng Zhi's son. She even has a birth certificate to prove it. Feng Meiqi doesn't believe her and tries to throw them out.
The Final Straw
He Lihua asks to speak with Ding Hong alone. Ding Hong gets straight to the point. She wants a share of Feng Zhi's inheritance for her son. He Lihua has to deliver the bad news. There is no inheritance. There is only a mountain of debt.
He Lihua also notices the jade bracelet Ding Hong is wearing. She knows it's a fake. The real family heirloom bracelet was given to her, and she later gave it to Shen Mingzhu.
A Life on the Line
Ding Hong and her son leave. Shen Mingzhu finds He Lihua drinking heavily. She feels she has to do something. She runs outside and catches up to Ding Hong. She tells her again that there is no money, only debt. She begs her to leave He Lihua alone.
Back inside, He Lihua says she is exhausted and goes to lie down on the sofa. A little later, Shen Mingzhu tries to wake her up. She discovers He Lihua is unconscious. She tells Feng Meiqi to call for an ambulance.
At the hospital, the news is grim. He Lihua is in critical condition and has been moved to the ICU. The doctor says she needs expensive albumin injections to have a chance. Shen Mingzhu uses every last bit of money she has to pay the hospital fees. Feng Meiqi just waits outside the ICU doors. She watches in terror as other patients are wheeled out, gone.
