The Aftermath of Feng Zhi's Death
Shen Mingzhu Takes Charge
So, Feng Zhi is dead. His wife, He Lihua, and his daughter, Feng Meiqi, are completely falling apart. They just sit around crying. It doesn't help that creditors are already banging on the door demanding their money. He Lihua and Feng Meiqi are terrified. They have no idea what to do.
This is where Shen Mingzhu steps up. She faces the creditors herself. She bravely promises to pay back every single penny. Her own family, Shen Shengli, Yue Xiue, and Shen Minghui, arrive to support her. They help her handle all of Feng Zhi's funeral arrangements.
The Shocking State of the Finances
After the funeral, Mingzhu goes straight to Feng Zhi's safe and opens it. Feng Meiqi is stunned. She asks Mingzhu how she knew the password. We learn that Feng Zhi told Mingzhu the password before he died. He never told his own daughter. That has to sting.
Meiqi studied finance, so she starts going through the company's books. The news is bad. The company only has 100,000 yuan. The debts are over two million. But the bad news isn't over. Mingzhu then tells her that Feng Zhi also mortgaged the house for another two million yuan. Meiqi is completely floored. Mingzhu admits she suspected something was wrong with the finances. This is why she pushed so hard to get the house transferred into her name. She wanted to make sure she wasn't left with nothing.
While looking through the safe, Meiqi finds a large gold lock. Feng Zhi bought it as a gift for Mingzhu's unborn child. Mingzhu takes the lock for the baby. She also takes the two bottles of expensive liquor that Xu Zhixia had given to Feng Zhi.
Xu Zhixia's World Crumbles
A Useless Husband and a Banned Account
Xu Zhixia and Zhang Hao are watching all this happen to Mingzhu. They feel awful for her. Zhang Hao then says something stupid. He complains that Feng Zhi died before he could help him get the promotion. He says it's a shame about the expensive liquor he never got to taste. Zhixia rightfully yells at him.
She's been trying to pull strings to help Zhang Hao get that promotion. Nothing is working. She comes home and finds him just playing games on the couch. She completely loses her temper with him. He just tells her she should learn to be happy with what they have.
To make things worse, Zhixia discovers her public social media account has been shut down. She calls the platform to find out why. They tell her it was flagged for vulgar content. She checks the account. She finds out her friend Mao Dou had posted a picture of a woman in a bikini. Now she has to go through an appeal process to get her account back.
The Bills Pile Up
Zhixia's problems keep getting bigger. A client calls and cancels their contract because her account is frozen. Then, her daughter JiaoJiao's piano teacher sends a message. The tuition fee is over 20,000 yuan and it's due now.
Zhixia calls Zhang Hao in a panic, asking for the money. He says he doesn't have it and quickly hangs up. He ends up going to his mother and grandmother to borrow the cash.
Later, Mingzhu returns the liquor to Zhixia. Zhixia invites her over, but Mingzhu declines. She is still in a period of mourning and can't visit other people's homes.
Facing the Music
A Tense Meeting with Creditors
Shen Mingzhu and Feng Meiqi arrange a meeting with all the creditors. Meiqi presents her audit report. She explains that the company is bankrupt. She promises she will do everything she can to pay them back. The creditors are not happy. They accuse her of trying to get out of the debt.
Shen Mingzhu steps in and speaks to them calmly. She explains the situation again. One of the creditors, Wang Rongguang, decides to give them some time. Seeing this, the other creditors also back down and agree to wait.
Mingzhu Makes a Sacrifice
Mingzhu is putting her money where her mouth is. She gathers all of her personal savings. She even sells two gold bars she had been saving for her baby. Her parents are worried. They tell her she doesn't need to get involved in the Feng family's problems.
But Mingzhu feels she has to do this. She points out that Feng Zhi gave her the house before he died. Her brother, Shen Minghui, tells her he will always stand by her side.
