The Live-Streaming Dream

Wu Aicao is feeling himself. He’s been checking his phone and loves the attention he's getting online. The comment section is buzzing. He gets a big idea. He runs to his wife, Long Fengbi, and suggests they start live-streaming to sell products. It could be a new way to make money for the family.

Long Fengbi immediately shuts it down. She tells him to get the idea out of his head. The family can't afford to take that kind of risk. They don't have the money to lose if it fails.

But then, packages start showing up at their house. They are gifts from fans. There's a ton of nutritional feed just for their little calf. Long Fengbi sees all of this and has to admit that people online really do care. Wu Aicao sees his opening. He brings up the live-streaming idea again. She still says no.

A Fake Fight and a Real Misunderstanding

Wu Aicao is sulking when he gets a call from Ma Qinghao. Ma Qinghao claims he and Gun Changpu are in a massive fight. Wu Aicao panics and rushes over to break it up.

It turns out to be a setup. The real issue involves Gun Changpu’s family. His parents, the Gun Dayues, really like Li Jinbao. They want their son to go check him out as a potential match for his sister, Gun Yueliang. Gun Changpu tells his sister about this. He makes it clear he is on her side, not their parents'.

Later, Ma Qinghao is near the old family house when Gun Yueliang finds him. She tells him directly that she will not be renting out the house. Gun Changpu tries to lighten the mood. He casually mentions Xu Baiyun. This backfires completely. Gun Yueliang now thinks there's something going on between Ma Qinghao and Xu Baiyun.

A Loan Between Friends

The three buddies, Ma Qinghao, Gun Changpu, and Wu Aicao, meet up by the river. They’re just hanging out and eating roasted corn. Gun Changpu suddenly offers to lend Ma Qinghao 200,000 yuan.

He gives Ma Qinghao two strict conditions. First, he cannot touch the money set aside for Uncle He's medical treatments. Second, he must keep his car. Gun Changpu doesn't want people in the village thinking Ma Qinghao is failing out there. It's about saving face.

Gun Changpu also gives him some advice. He says the only way to stop the town gossip is for him and Gun Yueliang to actually get together for real. Ma Qinghao promises he won't give Li Jinbao any chance with her.

Business, Family, and Awkward Conversations

Gun Yueliang thinks it over and finally agrees to join the embroidery factory. Long Fengbi is ecstatic. She sets up a hot pot in the yard to celebrate. They eat and talk about the factory's future. But then Long Fengbi brings up Ma Qinghao. She tests the waters by asking what Gun Yueliang thinks of Li Jinbao. Gun Yueliang dodges the question. She says right now she only wants to focus on making the factory a success.

On another side of town, Ma Qinghao's father, Ma Yongbing, hears his son is having money trouble. He secretly takes out his life savings. He finds Ma Qinghao and tries to give him the passbook for the B&B. Ma Qinghao is touched. The sweet moment doesn't last. His dad immediately switches topics to getting married and having kids. The mood freezes. Ma Qinghao refuses to take his father's retirement money. His dad insists on stuffing it in his pocket. The two end up arguing, both getting flustered.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Gun Yueliang's arrival at the factory is a huge boost. The embroiderers are energized. They start producing new patterns much faster. She has quickly become their leader.

Meanwhile, Ma Qinghao is at the old house cleaning up. He finds a yellowed book of poetry at the bottom of a wooden chest. The book sends him back in time. He remembers a summer night with Gun Yueliang. They were reading romantic poems to each other.

His daydream is shattered. Gun Changpu and Wu Aicao burst into the yard, loud as ever. They pull him right out of his memory. They start talking about an old man from the village who used to write poetry. He eventually went mad and his family had to take him away. They tease Ma Qinghao that he's lucky he didn't go down that same path.

The three friends sit in the yard talking about the old days. It feels just like when they were kids. They get a sudden burst of energy. They start playing that old chicken fighting game. You know, hopping on one leg and trying to knock each other over. The three of them, all in their thirties, are just hopping around and laughing. They found a piece of their childhood joy again.
