Episode Summary
Jiang Chen confesses his feelings to Jiatong despite the firm's strict rules. The team uses a cosplay sting operation to track down a lead at Rui'e Company. Song Yifan launches a surprise legal raid, only to face off against Jiang Chen's estranged father, Jiang Ruocheng. Jiang Chen struggles with his father's shadow but proposes a smart settlement. Hospital Visits and Morning Confessions
Things start off with a bit of a medical emergency. Jiang Chen notices Ren Jiatong isn't looking too hot. He steps up and takes her to the hospital. The diagnosis is acute gastroenteritis. Jiatong just wants some pills so she can get out of there. Jiang Chen isn't having it. He insists on an IV drip. We find out Jiatong is terrified of needles. Jiang Chen distracts her with stories about his own childhood to calm her nerves. It works.
The next morning, things escalate quickly. Guo Xiaoyu rushes out for work. The second she is gone, Jiang Chen corners Jiatong. He calls her out for ignoring his text messages. Then he just goes for it. He confesses his feelings. He knows she likes him too. He acknowledges the elephant in the room. Jun'an has a strict rule against office romances. Their family backgrounds are different. He can't promise a perfect future. But he tells her to stop running away from what is happening between them.
Secrets and Cosplay
Guo Xiaoyu actually forgot her charger and came back. She sees the whole confession. She heads to work completely distracted. She asks Yan Fei if office romances always end with someone getting fired. Yan Fei warns her to keep her mouth shut. She jokes that you have to be brain-damaged to date a male lawyer. Then she remembers Zhou Nian and walks that back a little.
The interns get a break in the case. They find the Creative Director's social media account. The guy is obsessed with anime and 2D culture. He goes to conventions every year. Jiang Chen happens to own a rare collectible the guy wants. They hatch a plan. Jiatong cosplays as the character. She teams up with Jiang Chen and Li Ke. They "sell" the item to the Director. The shipping address he gives them leads straight to the Rui'e Company. Got him.
The Dawn Raid
The team digs deeper into the Tiankaixin startup history. The founders didn't just split over money. It was about ideology. The Creative Director wanted to stick to his original vision. The others sold out for an IPO. Song Yifan decides it is time to talk to Rui'e's legal team.
Song Yifan throws a curveball at Jiang Chen. He asks what he would do if he were the client. Song realizes the client doesn't want to destroy his old partners. He still cares about them. So Song chooses a "Dawn Raid." This means showing up unannounced to catch them off guard and grab evidence before they can hide it.
They hit Rui'e. The game development lead plays dumb. Then the heavy hitter arrives. It is Jiang Chen's dad, Jiang Ruocheng. He is representing Rui'e. The vibe in the room freezes. Jiang Ruocheng is a shark. He claims the copyright infringement was the Art Director's personal mistake. He says the company will fire the guy. But he refuses to apologize or admit the company did anything wrong. Song Yifan introduces Jiang Chen to his father as a top talent at Jun'an. The dad looks like he is actually thinking about that.
Daddy Issues
Back at the firm, the secret is out. Li Ke finds out Jiang Ruocheng is a big deal and also Jiang Chen's father. Li Ke gets bitter. He feels like he works himself to death while others just have rich dads. Jiatong overhears this. She shuts it down immediately. She tells everyone Jiang Chen earned his spot at Jun'an on merit.
Jiang Chen and Jiatong have a moment on the roof. He opens up about his dad. They used to play lawyer games when he was a kid. Then his dad remarried and had another son. Jiang Chen felt like he could never do anything right after that. Jiatong tells him he is proving himself just fine.
Jiang Chen takes this energy and goes to Song Yifan. He suggests a settlement where Rui'e invests in Tiankaixin. Song Yifan loves the idea.
The Unwelcome Guest
Jiang Chen and Jiatong go grocery shopping. We learn Jiang Chen has his dad blocked on everything. They get back to the apartment and get a shock. Jiang Ruocheng is sitting in their living room. Jiatong makes an excuse and leaves them alone.
The conversation is painful. It is stiff and awkward. Jiang Ruocheng thinks his son is only at Jun'an to chase a girl. Jiang Chen denies it. He tries to keep it professional. Meanwhile, Guo Xiaoyu comes home exhausted. She hears that the famous lawyer Jiang Ruocheng is in her house. Suddenly, she is wide awake.
