Episode Summary
Sawa fails to prove He Xian's guilt after a witness is murdered. The Portuguese government forces Japan to back down, restoring rights to Chinese doctors. He Xian sets a trap for the Japanese using fake cargo. Sawa assassinates his own colleague, Fukue, and frames Rodrigues for the murder to justify a Japanese blockade of Macau.

Sawa Hits a Wall
Sawa Eisaku rushes to Wang Qizheng's warehouse expecting a bust. He finds a corpse instead. Wang Qizheng is dead. The only things left alive are piles of documents. The papers are signed and sealed. They prove He Xian sold the diesel fuel before the deadline. The ship rental looks legal too. Sawa does not buy it for a second. He is convinced the Portuguese government and the Chinese merchants cooked the books. He waits for his ace in the hole. He expects Lin Nianci to walk in with a witness statement. The bad news arrives fast. Lin Nianci has been assassinated. Sawa is left with nothing.
The Tables Turn
The Governor calls an emergency meeting. The Portuguese officials finally show some backbone. They lay out the evidence. They make three hard demands to the Japanese. They want the Xi'an ship back immediately. They want cash for the people killed and injured at the docks. Most importantly, they want to tear up the joint anti-smuggling agreement. No more Japanese armed guards in the harbor. The Japanese know they are cornered. They admit the whole thing was a "misunderstanding." They accept every condition. Sawa suffers the ultimate humiliation. He has to apologize to He Xian face-to-face.
Doctors and Guerrillas
This victory changes everything for Kiang Wu Hospital. The Chinese doctors finally get their surgical rights back. The staff who quit come back to work. He Xian and the crew take a victory photo at the opening ceremony for the new operating room. The hospital gets its license. This makes it easier to help the Wuguishan guerrillas. Young people and medics start running supplies to the fighters. The government looks the other way regarding weapon transfers and treating wounded soldiers.
Things are not going as well for the bad guys. Yazaki Kanji gets "promoted" to a desk job in Nanjing. General Matsui takes over his spot. Sawa feels guilty. He swears to Yazaki he will wipe out the anti-Japanese forces in Macau.
The Trap is Set
He Xian plays a dangerous game. He goes to He Hongshen with a business proposition. He claims he wants to return a favor. He says he has a stash of machinery and precision parts to sell. He Hongshen runs straight to Saito with the intel. Saito is desperate for supplies. He is thrilled. He agrees to use military cargo ships to move the goods. He tells He Hongshen to handle the logistics personally. He Hongshen agrees. He walks away with a smirk. He knows exactly what is happening.
Family and Future
He Xian goes home with a heavy heart. He feels bad about donating the money his father meant for buying land. He Chengxi does not care about the cash. He gives his son a lesson. He says wealth rarely lasts three generations. He cares more about his descendants knowing right from wrong. He tells He Xian to keep his feet on the ground.
Meanwhile, Luobo makes plans for peace. He tells Qiao Yinwan he will quit the government when the war ends. He wants to sell his assets and start a band for her. Qiao has other ideas. She wants to go back to the orphanage to help children. Luobo offers to go with her. She tells him to follow his own dreams instead.
Betrayal in the Ranks
The Japanese army plans a major attack on Zhijiang. They need supplies fast. He Xian’s group contacts Rodrigues and Huang Sanhe to move the cargo.
Fukue sees the writing on the wall. He realizes Sawa is delusional. He sends a formal request to headquarters to shut down Sawa's agency. Sawa finds out and flies into a rage. Then he gets a tip from Huang Gongjie. Two big ships from Rodrigues' company are at the dock. The police have sealed the area. Only the Dahao Gang is allowed inside. Sawa smells a rat. He makes a cold decision. He orders a hit on Fukue.
The Frame Job
An assassin shoots Fukue. They rush him to Kiang Wu Hospital. Sawa goes into damage control mode. He calls Shadan Biao back to Macau to cover his tracks. He alters Fukue's report. He pretends to be angry and reports the "tragedy" to headquarters. The Japanese army uses this as an excuse. They lock down Macau with a total blockade.
A new investigator named Imai Keiichi arrives. He takes over the case. He demands total cooperation from the police. The investigation moves fast because the evidence is planted. They find a car belonging to Rodrigues' company at the scene. They also find the body of his secretary, Santos. Santos is holding one of the murder weapons. It is a perfect setup.
