Episode Summary
Jin Chao overcomes his driving trauma while chasing a bus he thinks Jiang Mu is on. He realizes he wants to face life with her rather than protect her from a distance. They travel to Canada to ask Jiang Mu's mother for her blessing, but receive a very cold reception despite Jin Chao's heartfelt efforts.

The Grocery Store Giveaway
We start with a little detective work from Lin Sui. Jin Chao wonders how Lin Sui figured out his plan to propose to Jiang Mu. Lin Sui points to the shopping cart. It’s obvious. Every single item in there is something Jiang Mu likes. Jin Chao didn't buy a single thing for himself.
Well, almost nothing. Jin Chao points to a carton of eggs. Those are for him. He wants egg fried rice. Lin Sui just rolls his eyes at that.
The trio heads to the arcade to blow off some steam. They hit the claw machines. Jin Chao and Jiang Mu are on a roll, but they toss all their winnings to Lin Sui. Watching the couple have fun actually cheers Lin Sui up.
Racing Demons
Lin Sui isn't done yet. He challenges Jin Chao to a round of electronic racing. Jin Chao accepts. He gets cocky and says he’ll drive with one hand just to make it fair.
While they play, Lin Sui gets serious. He asks if Jin Chao has thought about returning to professional racing. Jin Chao doesn't want Jiang Mu to hear this. He distracts her and sends her away for a moment. He tells Lin Sui he has his reasons. He refuses to let Jiang Mu worry about his safety again.
The Panic and the Breakthrough
The next morning is chaotic. Jiang Mu rushes out the door for work but leaves her important files behind. Jin Chao spots them. He grabs the files and runs downstairs.
He looks down the street and sees a bus pulling away. Smoke is pouring out of its tailpipe. Jin Chao panics. He thinks Jiang Mu is on that death trap. He sprints back, grabs his car keys, and floors it.
He drives like a maniac. He chases that bus down. The smoke gets worse, and the bus driver finally pulls over. Jin Chao frantically calls Jiang Mu. She picks up. She isn't on the bus. She is safe at the convenience store downstairs. Jin Chao almost collapses with relief. He runs back and hugs her tight.
Then it hits Jiang Mu. He drove. He chased the bus. Jin Chao finally conquered his trauma. He can drive again.
Noodles and Forgiveness
Later, Jin Chao watches some kids learning to ride bikes. It triggers a realization. He used to think love meant self-righteous sacrifice. Now he sees it differently. Love is about facing the storm together.
He goes home and cooks noodles for Jiang Mu. He asks a loaded question: who cooks better, him or his brother, Jin Qiang?
This brings up a memory. After the accident, Jin Qiang made noodles for Jin Chao. He admitted he wanted to make amends to Jiang Mu but didn't know how. Jin Chao relays this to Jiang Mu. He tells her Jin Qiang is bad at expressing feelings. Jiang Mu says she forgave him ages ago.
Jin Chao makes a vow. He won't end up like his brother. He won't put racing above his family. Her happiness is his dream. She tells him she supports whatever he decides to do.
The Canada Trip
The couple flies to Canada. It’s time to face the final boss: Jiang Mu’s mother, Jiang Yinhan. Jin Chao is a nervous wreck. Jiang Mu holds his hand tight.
Chris greets them at the door. The house is nice, with a well-kept garden. Jiang Yinhan is inside cooking. She sees Jin Chao and says absolutely nothing. She just goes back to her pots and pans.
Dinner is brutal. They try to talk about a documentary on celestial bodies. Jiang Mu tries to toss the conversation to Jin Chao. He gets a few words out before Jiang Yinhan cuts him off. Chris tries to smooth things over, but the air is freezing.
The Tea Ceremony
Jin Chao decides to rip the band-aid off. He admits he and Jiang Mu are living together. Jiang Yinhan goes silent. The temperature in the room drops another ten degrees.
After dinner, Jin Chao brings out the betrothal gifts. He states his intention to marry Jiang Mu. Jiang Yinhan sits there knitting. She doesn't even look up.
Jin Chao doesn't back down. He gives a speech. He knows he isn't the son-in-law she wanted. But his heart is true. He promises to love and protect Jiang Mu no matter where they are. He pours a cup of tea and offers it to her.
She doesn't take it.
Jiang Mu walks in. Jiang Yinhan finally takes the cup. She places it on the table and tells them to go rest. She leaves the room. It wasn't a warm hug, but she took the tea. Jin Chao breaks down in tears. Chris tells them to just give her some time.
