Episode Summary
Gao Haitian wakes up from a coma believing it is 1999. His friend recruits the daughter of Gao's old love interest to reenact the past. A broken bicycle triggers Gao's memories of a romance with his night school teacher, Wu Xueqing. We learn they separated because of a misunderstanding about college plans. Gao regains his memory in the present day and finds closure after reading Wu Xueqing's diary.

The Big Reset
Gao Haitian is in a mess. He gets into a serious car accident abroad. He falls into a coma. His best friend, Jia Chang'an, stays by his side the whole time. The doctors manage to save him. Gao finally wakes up. But there is a catch. He has partial amnesia. His memory is stuck in 1999. He thinks he is still twenty-six years old. The doctor suggests a radical therapy. They need to surround him with people and things from that year to wake up his brain.
Roleplaying the Past
Gao kept an old group photo from night school. Jia Chang'an uses this clue. He tracks down Jiang Xiaolan. She is the daughter of the old teaching assistant, Wu Xueqing. They bring Gao to the old night school classroom. Jiang Xiaolan steps in to teach the class. Gao looks at her. She looks familiar. He just can't figure out why.
The Bicycle Trigger
The story flashes back to the real 1999. Gao signed up for English classes at Xinghui Night School. Professor Wang from Shenzhen University was the main teacher. Wu Xueqing was the assistant. She made everyone write essays to check their level.
Back in the present simulation, Jiang Xiaolan takes Gao for a bike ride to clear his head. His bike breaks down. She points to a repair shop down the road. This specific moment hits Gao hard. It feels like déjà vu.
Rain and Romance
The memory unlocks. Gao remembers the exact same thing happened after class in 1999. Wu Xueqing said those same words about the repair shop. They chatted while the bike got fixed. They hit it off. Later that night, a massive rainstorm hit Shenzhen. Wu Xueqing was alone in the dorms. Gao got worried. He ran through the rain to keep her company. He slipped and hurt his arm. She bandaged him up. The vibe shifted. They both caught feelings that night.
The Cruel Twist
Wu Xueqing was originally from Macau. She applied for a master's program at NYU. She told Gao he should go see the world. He took that advice to heart. He quit his job immediately. He focused entirely on the TOEFL exam. He wanted to surprise her.
Hard work paid off. He got the acceptance letter from NYU. He went to tell her the good news. Then the floor fell out. She had accepted a spot at Shenzhen University instead. Gao was completely stunned.
Closure in 2024
Gao was torn back then. He drank his sorrows away with Jia Chang'an. He wanted to give up on America to stay in Shenzhen with her. Jia Chang'an told him he was crazy to throw away the opportunity. So Gao left.
Now we are back in 2024. Gao has returned as a successful man. Jiang Xiaolan takes him to their old dating spots. His memory fully returns. She hands him her mother's notebook. We get the other side of the story. Wu Xueqing actually stayed in Shenzhen for Gao. He left for her. They missed each other completely. Wu Xueqing is currently away teaching in a remote area. She sends a message through her daughter. She just wants him to live a good life. Gao finally lets go of the past.
