Episode Summary
Wen Jiangyan reunites Liu Tianye and Qin Feng for a nostalgic birthday dinner. Qin Feng tries to rescue Meng Yu but gets outsmarted by Hong Mushou's men. Hong Mushou pressures Peng Hanzhang to silence a witness. Peng forces Captain Zhong to help assassinate the witness in the hospital. However, Zhong works with Ye Tianyou to set a trap. They fake the assassination to get evidence against Peng. Peng is arrested. Police track down the fugitive He Kang.

The Birthday Truce
We start with a heavy dose of nostalgia. The show takes us back to 2002. Liu Tianye and Qin Feng set up a massive fireworks display for Wen Jiangyan’s birthday. It was a simpler time. Back in the present, Jiangyan wants to recapture that feeling. She tells Tianye that Zhao Ziyi is out of the hospital. She uses this good news to push for a reunion.
Surprisingly, the guys agree. They show up for her birthday just like the old days. They even bring the same gifts. For a few hours, the three of them sit around and laugh. It feels like nothing has changed. But the tension is still there underneath the surface. It is a heartbreaking moment because we know they are on opposite sides now.
The Hunt for Meng Yu
The warm feelings don't last long. Jiangyan helps the investigation by contacting Meng Yu. She talks about medical symptoms to gain trust. Meng Yu admits she is sick. She agrees to see a doctor. Qin Feng tracks the ambulance to her location. He thinks he has her cornered.
He is wrong. Hong Mushou’s people are one step ahead. They anticipate the move. While Qin Feng watches the front, they smuggle Meng Yu out the back door. Qin Feng waits and waits. He finally checks the surveillance footage. He sees an empty room. He got played.
The Mayor Cracks the Whip
Qin Feng isn't giving up. He gets a letter from Xiong Chao’s parents. He plans to use it to make Xiong Chao talk. Hong Mushou catches wind of this. He also sees a photo of the birthday party. He realizes Tianye and Qin Feng are working together. This terrifies him.
Hong Mushou calls in Peng Hanzhang. He shows him the photo. He is furious. He tells Peng to fix this mess immediately. Peng feels the walls closing in. He looks at his awards and commendations in his office. He knows his career as a respected officer is a lie.
The Hospital Sting
Peng gets desperate. He meets with Captain Zhong. He reveals the truth. Mayor Hong is the big boss behind everything. Peng forces Zhong to pick a side. He orders Zhong to help kill "Guazilao," the witness in the hospital. Zhong just needs to distract the guards. A killer will handle the rest. Zhong agrees.
Later that night, Zhong brings late-night snacks to the police guarding the room. A killer dressed as a doctor walks in. Zhong pretends to check the medicine. He gives the all-clear. The "doctor" does the job. Peng gets a text confirming the kill. He breathes a sigh of relief and goes home.
The Trap Sprung
Peng walks out of the station feeling safe. Then he freezes. He sees police officers escorting Guazilao into the building. The witness is alive. Peng realizes too late that he walked into a trap.
Zhong was never on his side. He teamed up with Ye Tianyou to stage the whole thing. They needed Peng to order the hit so they could catch him. The evidence is undeniable. Peng has to confess.
The episode ends on a grim note. Wen Qin calls her son, Tianye. She is sobbing. She begs him to turn back. Tianye just apologizes and hangs up. Meanwhile, He Kang turns on his phone. He sees the news about Peng. He panics and tries to run. But the police already have his location. They know Meng Yu is with him.
