Episode Summary
Ma Weiguo shocks everyone by proving he really intends to buy Tong Qiu a house, but it comes with the condition of caring for his aunt. Wang Chunsheng struggles to force his son into academic success and gets scammed by an illegal tutoring center. The House Hunting Prank That Wasn't
Ma Weiguo starts making big moves with his money. He transfers a large sum to his domestic account. He tells Tong Qiu he plans to buy him a huge house. He wants Tong Qiu to move in. Tong Qiu does not believe a word of it. He thinks this is some kind of elaborate prank. He looks around for hidden cameras. He assumes the old man is just looking for entertainment.
Tong Qiu goes to Wang Chunsheng to complain. They agree Ma Weiguo is joking. Wang Chunsheng gives him some advice. He says Tong Qiu should call the old man's bluff. He says next time Ma brings it up, Tong Qiu should agree to go house hunting immediately. This is supposed to expose the lie.
They are in the middle of this conversation when Ma Weiguo walks in. He grabs Tong Qiu. He takes him straight to a real estate viewing. The group is shocked. Ma Weiguo isn't kidding. He really intends to buy the property.
The Price of Admission
There is always a catch. Ma Weiguo tells Tong Qiu the house isn't free. He has a specific condition. He wants Tong Qiu to take care of his "Little Aunt" until she passes away. It gets worse. Wang Chunsheng looks for a tutoring agency. The regulations are strict right now. The agencies are hiding. He finds one operating secretly out of a coffee shop. He pays the fees. He is ready for his son to start lessons. The authorities raid the coffee shop immediately. He loses his money and the lesson is cancelled.
An Awkward Script Meeting
Tong Qiu’s father has work trouble. His investors want changes to a script. They want a trendy, Western-style romantic subplot added for the protagonist. He decides to consult the people he knows who lived abroad. That means bringing Ma Weiguo and Jin Tong together.
The meeting is painful. Jin Tong looks like she wants to run away. The scene Tong Qiu’s father describes sounds familiar. It involves a meeting in a bar. It turns out this mirrors real life. This is exactly how Ma Weiguo and Jin Tong met a year ago in New York. She was the one who approached him. They sat and drank together. The script meeting forces them to relive that memory.
