Spoiler Alert
The Mess Gets Messier
This whole situation is spiraling. Qu Tong is falling apart, and Su Mufan is making some bold, maybe stupid, moves. It’s hard to tell if he’s a mastermind or just making things worse.
A Tense Meeting
Su Mufan finally answers his phone. He only picks up after hearing that Qu Tong has seen Chen Shuncai’s face. Qu Tong gets on the line and demands he meet her immediately. He agrees.
They meet at the massage parlor. Su Mufan gets straight to the point. He suggests they just throw Su Muxin’s body in the river. Qu Tong thinks this is a terrible idea. But Su Mufan explains their original plan is shot anyway. He says he went to the rooftop. Someone already moved the body from the water tank. All the evidence is gone.
This news sends Qu Tong over the edge. She believes Shi Yue's death was just an accident, and now they have nothing. She starts thinking about how her brother, Su Muxin, had been acting paranoid lately. She accuses Su Mufan of wanting to kill him. To prove a point, she calls back the number that sent the threatening text. It goes to a dead tone. This confirms the blackmailer isn't someone from the parlor. She asks Su Mufan what he really wants. He says he just wants to help her. She doesn't buy it for a second and tells him to stay away.
The Rooftop Secret
Later, Su Mufan meets with Chen Shuncai. He shows him a cigarette butt he found on the rooftop. Chen Shuncai recognizes it. He says it's the same brand as another one he found. They both come to the same conclusion. The person who moved the body must have been Fu Wenjiang.
The Cops Close In
While everyone else is panicking, Zhou Mi is calmly putting the pieces together. It’s the eighth day of the investigation, and his theories are getting sharp.
Zhou Mi's Breakfast Theory
Zhou Mi is at a breakfast spot, thinking through the case. He remembers that the property management sent Qu Tong a text about water tank maintenance. This fits perfectly with the coroner's findings. It also explains why Qu Tong was near San Jie Restaurant, trying so hard to lose the cops tailing her. Her plan was likely interrupted when Shi Muxian showed up. That forced Su Mufan to move the body by himself. With no hard evidence, Zhou Mi decides the best angle is to focus on where the body was dumped.
He narrows it down to four possible locations. The only thing that doesn't add up is why the body was found at its actual discovery site. He sends Zhang Dongliang and Li Siyi to check out the four spots. He and Wu Dong head to Chen Family Village to dig into Su Mufan's past.
Digging into the Past
In the village, the chief, Chen Yong, has a lot to say. He tells Zhou Mi that Su Muxin was the village's first-ever college student. He was a great kid. His brother, Su Mufan, however, is blind.Chen Yong also recalls their mother's death. She died by suicide, drinking pesticides after a fight with Su Mufan. The police ruled it a suicide, so Su Mufan wasn't charged. After that, Su Mufan disappeared. Su Muxin told everyone his brother had jumped into the river.
The Third Man
The evidence at the dump site and a second look at surveillance footage point to a new problem. There might be someone else involved.
Clues at the Crime Scene
Zhang Dongliang finds something at one of the potential dump sites. There are drag marks, footprints, and tire tracks. A witness confirms seeing someone in a raincoat dragging a heavy object near a car. But the timing doesn't match the police's timeline. Zhou Mi knows Su Mufan is blind. He couldn't have done this alone. He concludes there has to be a third person.
Zhou Mi re-examines the phone store surveillance footage. He now believes the person in the video was Su Mufan, and he had an accomplice. This theory also helps explain some oddities at Shi Yue's original crime scene. If Su Mufan went to see Shi Yue, he could have pretended to be drunk to hide his blindness. The witness statements, Qu Tong's known running route, and Su Mufan's physical condition all point to the same thing. Someone else dumped the body.
The police identify the tire tracks. Zhou Mi sends his team to a business called Zhuo'er Jewelry to investigate.
The Pier Drop
Qu Tong gets a text. It tells her to bring money to the pier. She follows the instructions. She puts a bag of cash into a trash can and gets on a boat to leave. As she departs, a person dressed as a sanitation worker walks up and takes the bag.
