"Secret Files of XSA" Episode 16: A Tangled Web of Betrayal and Redemption
Okay, buckle up, because things get real in this episode. We jump right in with Jin Chuan discovering the control center trashed. He drops a bomb on Huo Min: Lin Yasheng mentioned Bai Keqing downloaded all the data. Talk about a mole!
Huo Min's on the hunt and finds Bai Keqing. She's desperate, running to a Japanese restaurant to hand off a USB drive to her dad. Surprise! It's Huang Weisheng. Huo Min arrives and straight up calls Huang Weisheng "Xiuluo." Huang Weisheng, clearly not winning any "Father of the Year" awards, admits he took out Huo Jun, calling him Xiuluo's biggest threat. Yikes.
Things escalate during a brawl between Bai Keqing and Huo Min when Lin Yasheng steps in and takes a knife for Huo Min. Talk about a noble sacrifice...or is it? Huo Min chases Huang Weisheng, runs out of bullets, and grabs a knife. Lin Yasheng tells Bai Keqing to run, but she's immediately caught by Luo Shanshan. Meanwhile, Huo Min and Huang Weisheng are in a brutal close-quarters fight. Huo Min grabs the USB drive that falls from Huang Weisheng, but Huang Weisheng snags a hostage and bolts. Luo Shanshan then reveals that Lin Yasheng is poisoned with pufferfish toxin. Priority shift: save Lin Yasheng!
Huo Min, channeling his inner MacGyver, performs an emergency tracheotomy on Lin Yasheng using a knife and a pen tube – something he apparently practiced a lot back in SAD (whatever that is). He saves Lin Yasheng but passes out from the stress.
Fast forward a week, and Huo Min wakes up in the hospital with Luo Shanshan asleep next to him. He wakes her up, gets a kiss for his troubles, and then pulls out a watch, promising to always keep his word. Cute moment, right? Outside the room, the rest of the team is eavesdropping until Luo Shanshan's mom shows up, mistaking Lu Chen for Luo Shanshan's boyfriend. Lu Chen clarifies things: the real boyfriend is inside. Awkward!
Huo Min visits Lin Yasheng, who's feeling pretty down about his new tracheotomy scar. In a surprising twist, Bai Keqing gets a chance to see Lin Yasheng because she's cooperating and Lin Yasheng has "major emotional problems". Bai Keqing apologizes, claiming she was just a tool of her father and wants a chance to redeem herself. Lin Yasheng is having none of it, telling her she killed his father and he'll never forgive her. Ouch.
The Azure No. 1 case is considered a partial win, and the team gets recognized, even if it's anonymously. Huo Min and Meng Li, back in uniform, request to rejoin the team, followed by Zhao Jizheng. The higher-ups grant the 901 task force a collective second-class merit.
Huo Min confronts Zhao Jizheng, revealing he knows Zhao Jizheng rigged the map given to Matt. Matt believed the map was real because the one on his computer was fake too – it was all a setup by Zhao Jizheng. Zhao Jizheng admits he's working on a big, international case. After some banter, Zhao Jizheng reveals that Ban Kun was arrested at the border.
Matt and Peng Yonghui are judged, and their files are locked away with the highest security clearance. Huo Min, back in his police uniform, salutes his brother Huo Jun, saying they both earned a medal. Huo Jun, hearing Deputy Mayor Jiang on TV, gets agitated and falls out of his wheelchair, crawling and yelling "Xiuluo." So, Huo Jun is Xiuluo? Or connected to Xiuluo? Plot thickens!
