Spoiler Alert
When Chen Kaixi finally confronted Chen Mian with cold, hard evidence of his affair, his first move wasn't remorse, oh no. He actually got angry, accusing her of snooping around based on hearsay and flat-out denying he was seeing someone else. It was only when Chen Kaixi laid out all the facts that he finally caved and admitted his wrongdoing. Later that night, Chen Kaixi spilled everything to Luo Man, asking for advice on Chen Mian's next move. Luo Man's prediction? Chen Mian would go all out with grand gestures to try and win her back.
And wouldn't you know it, Luo Man was spot on. The next morning, during breakfast, Chen Kaixi's dad called, asking about a villa. Chen Kaixi was clueless, but Chen Mian smoothly took the phone and chatted with her father. Turns out, Chen Mian had bought a villa for Chen Kaixi's parents. While a nice gesture on the surface, the fact that Luo Man had called it made Chen Kaixi feel even more uneasy.
Meanwhile, Luo Man had her own little blast from the past. Zhou Musun sent her a photo taken a while back when Luo Man and Chen Kaixi were having dinner. The kicker? Zhou Musun was also in the background at another table in the same restaurant. His not-so-subtle message was that they were "destined" to meet. Luo Man just gave a slight smile; she was all too familiar with these kinds of cheesy tactics and wasn't falling for it.
Over at the hospital, Chen Mian dropped by to bring Fang Chi some food. Fang Chi, ever the good guy, tried to advise Chen Mian to cherish his family, especially a great woman like Chen Kaixi. Chen Mian brushed it off and then, seeing an opportunity, brought up Luo Man, warning Fang Chi (who he figured was trying to pursue Luo Man) to stay away from "that kind of woman."
Luo Man was busy filming her documentary. While chatting with Fang Chi, she learned that Chen Mian had offered to give Fang Chi an apartment. Luo Man actually advised Fang Chi to accept it, but he didn't seem interested. Their conversation was cut short when Fang Chi was paged for an emergency. A patient needed immediate resuscitation, and Fang Chi rushed off. The documentary crew, recognizing the raw intensity of the moment, started filming. Tragically, despite their best efforts, the patient didn't make it. The entire medical team was devastated, and the film crew felt the heavy atmosphere too – a life just gone. Seeing Fang Chi so broken up, Luo Man went to comfort him, taking him up to the hospital rooftop for some air. Other doctors involved in the rescue joined them, gazing out at the city.
The next day, the sun rose as usual, and with it, Fang Chi seemed to find a sliver of hope, his mood lifting. Luo Man interviewed him, asking why they continued resuscitation efforts when it seemed the patient was likely already gone upon arrival. Fang Chi explained it was for the family – to show them that the doctors truly did everything they could, giving the family a sense of closure. The conversation then shifted, and they started talking about Fang Chi's family. It turns out, both his parents were doctors and had initially been against him following in their footsteps. Fang Chi used to wonder why, but now, having faced the life-and-death realities of the profession, he finally understood the immense emotional toll it takes.
Later, Fang Chi happened to overhear a conversation between Chen Mian and his friend, Zhang Fan. It was an eye-opener; Fang Chi realized that much of what Chen Mian presented to the world was a facade – he wasn't as great as he seemed. Feeling guilty towards Chen Kaixi because of his brother's (Chen Mian's) actions, Fang Chi called her, urging her to pay close attention to Chen Mian's business dealings.
Taking Fang Chi's warning to heart, Chen Kaixi, along with Luo Man, went to see a lawyer. Their investigation uncovered a bombshell: all of Chen Mian's company shares were being held by Zhang Fan. This meant Chen Mian's previous claims that he wasn't petty about sharing equity with Chen Kaixi were all lies. Essentially, Chen Kaixi wasn't going to get any shares.
Luo Man then confronted Fang Chi, upset that he had told Chen Kaixi the truth. Fang Chi's defense was poignant: he remembered how incredibly happy Chen Kaixi looked on her wedding day. Now, her face was constantly clouded, devoid of any joy. He firmly believed Chen Mian was to blame for her unhappiness.
