To Get Master, Episode 7 Recap: A Fake Death and a Real Kiss
Episode 7 of "To Get Master" dives headfirst into deception and burgeoning romance, using a classic fake-death trope to unravel one conspiracy while setting the stage for a much larger one. With relationships shifting and hidden dangers bubbling to the surface, the wedding we've been waiting for finally happens, ending with a moment that changes everything.
A Test of Trust
The episode opens with Li Song'er discovering Gu Yuan lying motionless in bed. After checking for breath and finding none, she believes him to be dead. Overcome with guilt, she confesses her true intentions to his "corpse": her entire scheme to get close to him was a means to an end, a way to return to her home, Zuimeng City. Just as a storm rages outside and she closes her eyes, seemingly waiting for a magical transport that never comes, she opens them to find Gu Yuan standing before her, very much alive. He had faked his death to test her. Instead of harsh punishment, however, he simply orders her to stand in a corner and reflect on her actions.
The Sabotaged Heart Method
While Li Song'er’s crisis was a ruse, a real one was unfolding elsewhere. Chu Meng Die is the one who truly suffers a violent Qi deviation from her practice. Baili spends the entire night using his own energy to stabilize her, and thanks to her strong foundation, she recovers by the next day. A relieved Li Song'er compares her own Heart Method manual with Chu Meng Die's and they make a shocking discovery: Chu Meng Die's manual was a reversed, sabotaged copy. The only reason Gu Yuan wasn't harmed was that he had, by a stroke of luck, been given the correct version.
The drama is compounded by misunderstandings. Baili walks in on Chu Meng Die and Li Song'er in a heated discussion, misinterpreting their closeness as a secret romance. Meanwhile, Uncle Bai, convinced Li Song'er has betrayed their faction (Nan Chui Meng), orders his disciple Zhou Heng to keep a close watch on her.
Setting a Trap
To unmask the person who swapped the manuals, Gu Yuan devises a plan: Li Song'er will feign a Qi deviation to lure the culprit out into the open. The bait works perfectly. Uncle Bai and Zhou Heng, hearing the news, rush to "check on" her, and her over-the-top performance completely fools them, confirming their guilt.
However, Zhou Heng has his own secret. Uncle Bai notices his disciple's eyes are unnaturally dark and questions him, but Zhou Heng nervously brushes it off. He has just realized that he, too, has been practicing the incorrect Heart Method and is on the verge of a Qi deviation but is too afraid to admit it. Following the successful ruse, Gu Yuan places Li Song'er under a form of house arrest, claiming it's for her own safety before the wedding, much to her frustration.
From Swordplay to a Vow
With the culprits identified, Nan Wentian strips Uncle Bai of his authority as acting sect leader; Zhou Heng’s pleas for his master are ignored. Later, Gu Yuan finds Li Song'er and teaches her swordsmanship in a quiet, moonlit moment. He is surprised by how quickly she learns. When he brings up Zuimeng City, she remains evasive, but Gu Yuan silently vows to himself that he will help her return home one day.
The wedding day arrives, and the ceremony proceeds without a hitch. But after they drink the ceremonial nuptial wine, the atmosphere shifts. Gu Yuan closes in on a visibly nervous Li Song'er and, unable to restrain his feelings any longer, kisses her.
