A Tale of Two Faces and Tangled Hearts

The episode kicks off with Shi Diandian on a mission. She brings Xu Tian to an apartment complex, insisting he go up to unit 201 and meet a woman named Wen Xiaoyao. A confused Xu Tian, who has no idea who this person is, decides to just wait on a bench downstairs.

Meanwhile, the friendship between best friends Qiao Mi and Wen Xiaoyao is on the rocks. When Qiao Mi's father, Qiao Guanghui, picks her up, he finds the two giving each other the silent treatment. Qiao Mi cryptically says they're just experiencing the rift between Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing from their play, "The Legend of the White Snake."

Growing impatient, Shi Diandian goes to find Xu Tian and discovers he never went upstairs. He finally gets to ask why he's supposed to meet a total stranger. Shi Diandian explains the bizarre situation: she saw a man who looks exactly like him, took a photo, and then followed his girlfriend, who turned out to be Wen Xiaoyao—the lead dancer playing Bai Suzhen in the play.

Qiao Guanghui eventually gets to the bottom of the girls' fight: it's about a man named Zhou Tong. He scolds his daughter for being unreasonable and makes her apologize to Wen Xiaoyao. After a reluctant "sorry," Qiao Mi gets out of the car and hides. Wen Xiaoyao looks for her briefly, but Qiao Guanghui tells her to just go home, confident Qiao Mi will show up for the next day's performance.

Back on the bench, Xu Tian tells Shi Diandian he's had enough of waiting. He opens up, explaining that after more than a decade of living alone, her sudden appearance and meticulous care for him has brought a warmth he's never felt. He reassures her that he understands her fear of losing him but that he treasures their relationship even more. He's only curious to see his lookalike; the man's relationships mean nothing to him. Relieved, Shi Diandian agrees to wait just a little longer, and Xu Tian lets her rest her head on his lap.

As Shi Diandian recounts a story from a past relationship, they see the lights in Wen Xiaoyao's apartment turn on. But Shi Diandian is so absorbed in her story that they miss their chance. By the time she finishes, the lights are off, and they leave, thinking they missed Wen Xiaoyao completely.

In another part of the city, Zhou Tong is packing for a flight to Malaysia. Wen Xiaoyao tries to call him to clear the air, but his phone is in another room. When he finally sees her text asking him to come to her performance the next day, he sends back a polite but noncommittal reply.

The next morning, Qiao Mi decides to apologize to Zhou Tong properly. She calls him downstairs, but her pride gets in the way, and she tries to get him to concede first. Confused by her behavior, Zhou Tong gets into a petty argument with her, and they part on bad terms. He has a change of heart moments later, but Qiao Mi, late for rehearsal, is already gone. At the theater, Wen Xiaoyao is worried when Qiao Mi isn't in the car, and Qiao Guanghui reveals she went to see Zhou Tong.

Ultimately, Shi Diandian and Xu Tian decide they can't leave Beijing with regrets. They agree to go see the performance of "The Legend of the White Snake" to finally lay eyes on Zhou Tong.
