The Wonderful World Episode 7: Grand Gestures and Misguided Efforts
Zhou Tong's feelings for Wen Xiaoyao have blossomed into something genuine, moving beyond the initial pressure of his mother's matchmaking. Their connection deepens, culminating in a fun, carefree trip to the Great Wall.
Meanwhile, Shi Diandian's pursuit of Xu Tian escalates dramatically. Convinced they are destined for a romantic picnic, she arrives at a convenience store to stock up on snacks and, tellingly, mouthwash for an anticipated kiss. Her father's concerns about her rushing into things fall on deaf ears. She lures Xu Tian to the airport with a fabricated story about seeing his lookalike, preying on his search for someone from his past. To get his attention during the car ride, she feigns low blood sugar, prompting him to feed her snacks and orange slices. At the airport, her plan unravels. She lies to security, claiming to be Xu Tian's girlfriend and alleging he has amnesia to gain access to surveillance footage. While her ruse accidentally exposes a wanted man, Shi Diandian is reprimanded for misusing public resources and infringing on privacy. Despite causing the trouble, she seems unfazed, while Xu Tian feels guilty about the outcome.
The episode also features a significant act of generosity that backfires. In a stunning move at a notary office, Qiao Mi attempts to add her best friend Wen Xiaoyao's name to a property deed. Qiao Mi explains her motive to her shocked father, Qiao Guanghui: she sees Xiaoyao as a sister and wants to ensure she has a place of her own in Beijing. While Qiao Guanghui understands the sentiment, he finds the gesture reckless. Wen Xiaoyao, feeling overwhelmed by the Qiao family's kindness over the years, firmly refuses the offer. Pressured by Qiao Mi's emotional plea not to be treated like an outsider, Xiaoyao ultimately writes "disagree" on the contract and flees the office. The incident sparks a heated argument between Qiao Mi and her father, who scolds her for being spoiled and impulsive. Despite the fallout, a simple WeChat message from Qiao Mi seems to mend the fence between her and Wen Xiaoyao, suggesting their bond remains strong.
A smaller, yet touching, moment involves Xu Tian. For his loyalty in visiting Leifeng Pagoda every weekend for eighteen years to remember his mother, the scenic area's management rewards him with two tickets for a performance in Beijing, including airfare.
