Love in the Limelight: Spoilers for "The Wonderful World" Episode 8
This episode turns up the romance, with two key relationships taking major leaps forward while others face uncomfortable truths.
On the Great Wall, Zhou Tong finally opens up to Wen Xiaoyao, confessing that he's been drawn to her since they first met. He reveals a hidden vulnerability, explaining that a childhood trauma—witnessing his father's accidental death—left him with a deep-seated shadow he's been trying to outrun by traveling the world. For him, Xiaoyao represents the beautiful thing he's been searching for to fill that void. When it's her turn to speak, Xiaoyao hesitates, suggesting they text each other their true feelings at the same time. To Zhou Tong's delight, they both admit to wanting to cherish every second together. The confirmation of her feelings is all he needs, and he pulls her into a heartfelt embrace. Later, as they descend the steps, Xiaoyao stumbles and falls into his arms, leading to an impulsive, passionate kiss that finally shows her what love feels like.
Meanwhile, Shi Diandian and Xu Tian have their own lakeside rendezvous, orchestrated by Diandian faking car trouble. While Xu Tian is ready to forget about the man who looks just like him, Diandian insists that finding him could bring closure. The conversation shifts, and Xu Tian asks if she ever loved him. He thoughtfully suggests they treat this meeting as a fresh start and get to know each other all over again. After discovering the lookalike likely flew to Beijing, Xu Tian insists Diandian rest by the lake. As she sleeps, he covers her with his coat and admits to himself that he's never met anyone like her and would be a fool to let her go. His growing affection is clear when he later visits her at work to bring her a qipao, introduces himself as her boyfriend to her manager, and learns a surprising fact: Diandian is the wealthy daughter of the Keqiao Shi Group.
Not all relationships are blossoming, however. Qiao Guanghui arranges a dinner to apologize to Zhao Gang, but awkwardly uses the occasion to once again bring up marriage to Song Guanwang, who makes her position clear: she prefers their relationship as it is, like friends, and isn't interested in a proposal. In another corner of their world, Yang Yun breaks up with Yin Ye, stating that Yin Ye's work as a daigou (a personal shopper for overseas goods) doesn't fit the image of an artist she desires.
Back in her blissful bubble, Wen Xiaoyao tells her friend Qiao Mi about her new romance. Qiao Mi, however, is less than thrilled, warning Xiaoyao that falling in love could jeopardize her position as the understudy for the lead role of Bai Suzhen. Unfazed, Xiaoyao is too happy to care, even suggesting her new beau and Qiao Mi should become sworn brothers.
