"The Wonderful World" Episode 29: A Performance and a Revelation

The curtain rises on the official premiere of the ballet "Jin Se" ("The Brocade Zither"). Wen Xiaoyao has saved a ticket for Xu Tian, who in turn has invited Old Shi all the way to Beijing for the show. Old Shi is thrilled, snapping photos with the lead dancers, Wen Xiaoyao and Qiao Mi. Meanwhile, Yang Yun, now promoted to director, oversees the event with a watchful eye, still receiving caring attention from Yin Ye.

As the show begins, Xu Tian sits with an empty seat beside him for a long while, a sense of unease lingering until Shi Diandian rushes in to take her place. With her arrival, a calm settles over Xu Tian. The performance itself is breathtaking, captivating the entire audience. Wen Xiaoyao and Qiao Mi dance as if weaving a story, their movements fluid and expressive, earning Yang Yun's complete satisfaction.

Elsewhere, a different kind of drama unfolds. Qiao Guanghui has arranged to meet Zhao Gang at a public square, but his and Song Guanwang's late arrival infuriates the already impatient Zhao Gang, who threatens to leave. Qiao Guanghui manages to stop him. Xu Tian and Shi Diandian are also summoned to the square to keep Song Guanwang company. Xu Tian, ever spontaneous, jumps into a crowd of dancing locals. While he dances, Shi Diandian chats with Song Guanwang, who emotionally entrusts her with Xu Tian's happiness. When Xu Tian rejoins them, Song Guanwang is filled with a sense of nostalgia, as if his own son has returned, but he urges Xu Tian to build a happy life with Shi Diandian. In an effort to lighten the mood, Qiao Guanghui prods a reluctant Zhao Gang to dance. Feeling it's beneath him, Zhao Gang initially refuses, but after being physically pushed into the square, he decides to let go of his inhibitions. Tossing off his jacket, he takes the lead, becoming the star of the square dance as Qiao Guanghui cheers him on.

The turning point of the evening happens on the ride home. Song Guanwang casually mentions that Shi Diandian remembers him from the past. Xu Tian picks up on this immediately. He questions Shi Diandian, who denies it, but Xu Tian knows Song Guanwang wouldn't lie. The truth dawns on him: Shi Diandian never had amnesia. Her entire trip to Beijing was a deliberate act to find him. After they get out of the car, he asks her again. Hesitantly, she admits she is still the same "old" Shi Diandian and, uncertain of his reaction, quickly goes inside.

Later that night, while Xu Tian sits downstairs processing the revelation, a tormented Shi Diandian waits at home. In a phone call to Fang Fang, she confesses everything. She admits she never forgot Xu Tian and that all her actions in Beijing were a carefully crafted plan born from the fear of losing him. She worries that he only loves the version of her with no memory of their past, a past self that even she dislikes.

Just as her anxiety peaks, Xu Tian walks in. He turns off the lights and reveals a birthday cake, explaining his lateness. As Shi Diandian makes a wish, she reflects on how Xu Tian brought color and meaning to her quiet life. While they eat, she finally tells him the complete truth—that she remembers everything, including her insecurities about Wen Xiaoyao, and only pretended to forget because she couldn't bear to lose him. Xu Tian reassures her, telling her that it doesn't matter. He loves her, both the Shi Diandian from the past and the one she is now.

A few days later, the story finds its peaceful resolution. Xu Tian visits Zhou Tong's grave to share the recent news: Wen Xiaoyao and Qiao Mi are now lead dancers in the ballet troupe, Song Guanwang and Qiao Guanghui are living together happily, and most importantly, he and Shi Diandian are married. Two souls who both lost their mothers as children have found warmth and sincerity in each other.
