"Hide Games" Episode 4 Recap: The Doctored Video and a Hidden Injury

Episode 4 of Hide Games begins with Xiao Wu setting up a new base of operations for Han Xu—a hidden apartment right across the street from the police station. From the balcony, they have a perfect view of everything happening at the entrance. Xiao Wu explains that this place was actually a secret meeting spot for Han Xu and his undercover contact, An Shaocong.

We learn that just before the big bust was supposed to go down, An Shaocong was finishing his undercover mission. He was excited, telling Han Xu they should have a party to celebrate. During their last meeting, An Shaocong mentioned that a major player, Wang Chengming, was about to move a large shipment of goods, and the intel from his informant was solid.

To figure out what really happened, Han Xu asks Xiao Wu to get a copy of the surveillance footage the police have. But Han Xu takes it a step further. He goes to see a female hacker, Zhang Ahua, and pays her a hefty sum to pull the original, raw video file. When he watches it, he's completely shocked and confused to see his own face in the footage. Zhang Ahua tells him that on the surface, the video doesn't look like it's been tampered with, but a deep-dive analysis will cost extra. Han Xu agrees without hesitation.

After running her tests, Zhang Ahua confirms his suspicions. The video was definitely altered, and whoever did it was a total pro, leaving almost no trace of their work.

Later that night, Han Xu is standing alone on a bridge, watching the city lights. All the confusing events and unanswered questions are racing through his mind. After thinking it all through, he makes a decision and calls Chen Yaxin, agreeing to get a full brain examination.

Soon after, Chen Yaxin meets Han Xu in the suburbs with the results. The CT scan clearly shows an old injury to his head. The timing of the trauma lines up perfectly with the clean-up operation from two months ago. Staring at the medical report, Han Xu starts to realize that the events of that night were far more complex than he could have ever imagined.
