The Walls Are Closing In
Episode 5 of Hide Games begins with Han Xu back at Chen Yaxin's clinic. He's a mess, admitting that for a while he thought he was going crazy, maybe even had a split personality. Now he knows it's amnesia, but that's almost worse. After all this time chasing clues, he's still not sure if he's a killer.
Yaxin is having none of it. She tells him straight up: "You're not a murderer." She remembers him as a brave guy who never gives up, and she urges him not to start now. She has a plan to jog his memory: they need to find an object, something that triggers a powerful emotional response in him, and use it for a deep hypnosis session.
Instantly, Han Xu thinks of the black hooded sweatshirt and rushes home to get it. But when he unlocks his door, the living room lights flash on, and there's Wang Jian, sitting and waiting for him. The hoodie and shoes are sitting right there next to him. Wang Jian claims he was waiting for Han Xu to turn himself in, appealing to their old friendship. But Han Xu's trust is gone. He accuses Wang Jian of tampering with the security video's time code, which Wang Jian denies.
Wang Jian insists the evidence is real and guesses that Xiao Wu has been playing them against each other, admitting he's had his own doubts about him. He tries to convince Han Xu to come back to the station peacefully. As the handcuffs click on, Han Xu asks one last question: what does Wang Jian really think about the relationship between Xiao Ran and An Shaocong? Wang Jian freezes for a moment before saying he doesn't know, and the answer hangs in the air as they get into the police car.
On the road, their car is suddenly and violently T-boned by another vehicle. The impact is brutal. The other cop is knocked out cold, and Wang Jian's head smashes against the window, blood trickling down his face. In the chaos, Han Xu grabs a key from the unconscious officer, unlocks his cuffs, snatches the scattered evidence, and disappears into a dark alley. He knows he can't go back to the clinic; he can't risk putting Yaxin in danger.
The episode ends with Wang Jian, who has somehow found his way to Zhang Ahua. He pulls his gun on her, demanding to know why she lied to him. Terrified, she confesses that someone forced her to lie.
