Episode Summary
A new intern, Zhang Zhiming, arrives and is mentored by Dong Yi Yan, who successfully treats a former patient. Fang Xin blackmails Wang Qi Cheng and bribes doctors to oust Dong Yi Yan and get a board seat. While Dong Yi Yan performs a high-risk surgery on another past patient, she discovers her late husband was an anonymous informant about her family's past. A New Face and an Old Grudge
So, a new intern shows up. His name is Zhang Zhiming, and he seems eager.Dong Yi Yan decides to take him under her wing. She even lets him observe a special case to test his skills. I get it. You want to see what the new guy is made of.
Speaking of cases, Dong Yi Yan has a major win. She successfully treats a patient she first saved 18 years ago. The guy is so grateful he brings her a big bouquet of sunflowers. It's a nice moment. It’s probably the last nice moment anyone has for the rest of the episode.
Blackmail and Boardroom Games
Things get messy on the home front for Wang Qi Cheng. She thinks her husband, Peng Jian Bang, is cheating on her. It turns out he's just secretly getting cosmetic procedures from Ke Yongcheng. Peng Jian Bang's explanation is a classic. He says he's doing it for his "stock market boss" to cancel out his trading losses. He promises her the stocks will bounce back any day now. She is not impressed.
Wang Qi Cheng is so fed up she considers borrowing money from Fang Xin to cover his debts. This is a huge blow to Peng Jian Bang's pride. But Fang Xin is playing a much bigger game.She has some kind of dirt on Wang Qi Cheng related to stocks.She uses this leverage to pressure Wang Qi Cheng. The goal is to force Dong Yi Yan to resign.
Fang Xin isn't stopping there, though. She's also bribing doctors inside the hospital. She wants to frame Dong Yi Yan and secure her own spot on the board.The whole hospital is on edge. Everyone can feel a power shift coming.
A Life on the Line
In the middle of all this chaos, one of Dong Yi Yan's patients suddenly collapses. It's the man she saved eight years prior. His condition is critical. He tells her to just let him go. He feels like he's been living on borrowed time anyway. He thinks the resources should go to someone else.
Dong Yi Yan refuses. She's not giving up. While she's fighting to save him, her friend tries to warn her about Fang Xin's schemes. Dong Yi Yan brushes it off. The patient is her only priority. And in the end, she pulls it off. She completes the incredibly difficult surgery and saves his life.
The Big Reveals
Just as Dong Yi Yan saves her patient, Fang Xin arrives with the board of directors. She's ready to tear Dong Yi Yan down. But Dong Yi Yan was ready for her.
Here's where it gets wild. Dong Yi Yan had checked her late husband's email. She found out he was the anonymous person who sent her information about her past years ago. This means her husband, Wang Jin Tao, knew who her father was the entire time. He let her get close to him knowing this massive secret. She's completely floored and doesn't know what to do with this information.
Then comes the final twist. The new intern, Zhang Zhiming, openly declares he joined the hospital specifically for Dong Yi Yan.She sees a lot of her younger self in his ambition.Then we learn the truth. There's a very strong chance he is her son. Years ago, she got pregnant, the boyfriend bailed, and her father gave the baby up for adoption to a family in Australia. Now, her son might be standing right in front of her, also a doctor. For Dong Yi Yan, it’s a moment of shock, but also a strange kind of peace.
