Not a Baby, Just Bad Habits

Liu Xiangshang and Dai Jing finally go to the hospital for a real check-up.The doctor gets straight to it. Dai Jing is not pregnant. All her symptoms are probably just the result of a bad lifestyle. You can see they're a little bummed out, but they take the news well. Liu Xiangshang makes it clear, though. If Dai Jing really does want to have another kid, he's ready to try.

Shiwu's Short-Lived Career

A Little Success, Then a Big Fall

Remember Shiwu's "watch movies to learn" tutoring method? It actually worked. Enran's listening scores have shot up. Her mom is so happy that she pays Shiwu, giving him his very first paycheck. The first thing he does with the cash is take Mary out for dessert.

Of course, it couldn't last. The school finds out that Shiwu faked a university ID to get the tutoring job in the first place. This leads to a super awkward phone call where Enran's mom has to apologize to Lao Yang. Shiwu's classmate, who was also involved, gets into huge trouble with his parents.

Father vs. Son

Shiwu gets home, and Lao Yang is furious. But Shiwu stands his ground. He is completely serious about earning his own money and getting out from under his dad's thumb. They have a huge argument, and in the middle of it, Lao Yang gets knocked over and hurts his back. Tingting just has to stand there and watch, totally heartbroken and helpless.

Trouble at the Shop

A small side drama pops up for Tang Xiaowei. Someone reported the whitening advertisement at her beauty shop. She and Tingting go down to the local bureau to cooperate with the investigation. The official handling the case, Dong Cheng, tells them not to worry too much. After the investigation is done, they'll most likely just get a verbal warning. Then they can get back to business as usual.

The Fallout

Money and a Wake-Up Call

Lao Yang is done playing games. He freezes all of Shiwu's bank cards. He also tells Tingting not to dare give him any money. Tingting ignores him. She secretly gives Shiwu some cash, telling him it's her own money and has nothing to do with his dad.

Shiwu then goes to see Enran's mom to return the tutoring money. He feels bad about all the trouble he caused. She tries to refuse, but he insists. He also gives her some serious advice. He tells her she has to stop putting so much pressure on Enran. He points out that Enran is around the same age as Chu Yi, but she has no light in her eyes anymore. He even tells a story about a student who jumped off a building because of parental pressure.

This completely freaks out Enran's mom. She goes and checks Enran's tablet. She finds that Enran has been searching for things related to death. That's the wake-up call she needed. She tells Enran she doesn't have to study anymore. If she wants to go play somewhere, her mom will take her. She realizes she can't risk losing her daughter.

The Airport Standoff

Shiwu's plan to study abroad hits a wall when his application is rejected. His next move is to try and get his mom to sign something for him, but he's stopped by the police at the airport. Lao Yang gets the call and has to go pick him up. On the way back, Tingting tries to reason with him. She explains that Shiwu has his own dreams. Parents have to learn to let go eventually.

The Rollerblading Incident

Liu Guoning gets a brilliant idea to teach Sun Jiayu and Dabai how to rollerblade over the holiday. His parents, Liu Xiangshang and Dai Jing, shut it down immediately. They think it's way too dangerous. Liu Guoning responds by going on a hunger strike. They don't buy it for a second. They know he'll find a way to eat.

So, he just sneaks out and does it anyway. And, just like his parents feared, he takes a fall and injures his tailbone. Now he's terrified to tell them, because he knows his dad will never let him hear the end of it.
