A Lesson in Finance, a Disaster of a Prenup
This episode was all about consequences. Some were small, teachable moments. Others were huge, potentially life-altering train wrecks.
The Kids Learn About Money
Guoning's "Bailout"
So, after Sun Jiayu pays for Liu Guoning, they walk home together. This is when Guoning learns that Jiayu is the one who manages her family's money. She's strict with their budget because she knows her parents work hard for it.
This makes Guoning realize he messed up. He needs to pay Jiayu back, so he has to go to his dad, Liu Xiangshang, for the cash. But here’s the twist. Xiangshang and Jiayu were in on this together. The whole thing was a setup to teach Guoning a lesson. The money Jiayu used to pay for him actually came from Xiangshang in the first place.
Xiangshang tells Guoning he has to earn the money back through chores. With no other options, Guoning agrees to the deal. At the same time, Dai Jing has a talk with Liu Guobao, who also understands they were wrong.
The Grandparents Get on Board
Dai Jing fills her parents in on what happened with the kids. They finally realize that giving them extra money was undermining the parents' authority. They agree to get on the same page as Dai Jing and Liu Xiangshang. Dai Jing's dad decides to cut off the grandkids' allowance for now. He says the ten thousand yuan he already gave them can be considered an advance.
A Wedding Announcement Causes Drama
Everyone is celebrating New Year's Eve. Chu Yi and Ma Ziheng are handing out presents to their families. At dinner with Liu Xiangshang's family, Lao Yang's mom, Chang Xiaowen, makes a big announcement. She and Lao Yuan are getting married.
They plan to have the wedding in the south. Since Lao Yuan doesn't have any children of his own, he wants a big celebration with plenty of people from Xiaowen's side. Everyone at the table congratulates them. Everyone except Lao Yang.
Later, his mom tells him she wants him to walk her down the aisle and give her away to Lao Yuan. This makes Lao Yang furious. He goes to Liu Xiangshang to vent. Xiangshang advises him to just play along and not upset his mother. He even suggests a backup plan. He says their son, Shiwu, could walk his grandmother down the aisle instead, letting Lao Yang off the hook.
The Prenup Disaster
During the wedding rehearsal, Lao Yang drops a bomb. He pulls out a prenuptial agreement and asks Lao Yuan to sign it. Lao Yuan is deeply insulted. He sees it as an attack on his character and refuses to sign. He figures if Lao Yang can't accept him, it's better to cut his losses now.
Lao Yuan goes to his room and starts packing to leave. It takes a lot of convincing from Chang Xiaowen to get him to stay.
Lao Yang in the Doghouse
This move also causes a huge fight between Lao Yang and his wife, Tingting. She can't understand why he would do something so thoughtless and cruel. She thinks his actions were completely out of line.
The kids are all worried about the wedding falling apart. They really like Lao Yuan and want their grandmother to be happy. They start trying to figure out a way to make the adults reconcile so the wedding can still happen.
That night, Chang Xiaowen asks to sleep in Tingting's room. Tingting kicks Lao Yang out. He tries to get another room at the hotel, but they're completely booked.
