Growing Together: Episode 7 Recap

This episode was all about parents and kids learning from each other. Sometimes the kids are the ones teaching the lessons. It also seems like the garage is the new hotspot for drama.

The Homework Rebellion

The parents are all fed up. The school keeps sending out late-night notifications for assignments that need a printer. Nobody wants to be the one to complain to the teacher, Ms. Wang. They try to push Dai Jing to do it. After all, her brother is dating Ms. Wang, so they're practically family. Dai Jing isn't comfortable with that idea, so she holds off.

Lao Yang decides to solve the problem himself and buys a printer. Of course, it doesn't connect. The print shops are all closed for the night. He and his wife, Tingting, get into a fight over it. Their daughter, Chu Yi, hears the whole thing and feels terrible.

So, Chu Yi takes matters into her own hands. She goes to Ms. Wang at school. She explains that her dad works hard and her mom is very pregnant. They just can't handle the late-night stress. Ms. Wang gets it. She takes the issue to the school, and a solution is put in place quickly.

Later, Ms. Wang posts the school's new policy in the parent group chat. Everyone immediately thinks Dai Jing was the one who complained. She has to explain that she never said a word. Tingting assumes her own daughter wasn't the one who spoke up, thinking she's too timid. When she asks Chu Yi, she learns the truth. Tingting is moved to tears. She later tells Dai Jing how proud she is. They both agree that their kids are brave and considerate, and that parents should learn from them.

Parking Garage Problems

The drama just loves a good parking garage. This episode had three separate incidents down there.

First, Tang Xiaowei's nail salon renovation hits a snag. Her workers stay five minutes past the allowed work time. A neighbor complains and the police show up. It's not a huge deal, but Tang Xiaowei tells her crew to follow the rules exactly to avoid more conflict.

Next, Dai Jing comes home to find someone in her reserved parking spot. She posts a photo in the residents' group chat. The owner shows up and is incredibly rude, calling her a troublemaker. As they argue, Dai Jing's son, Liu Guobao, stands in front of his mom and yells at the man. Seeing her son defend her, Dai Jing blocks the man's car with her own. She tells him he can either move or they can wait for the traffic police. The guy backs down fast. He even apologizes to Liu Guobao before Dai Jing lets him leave. Later, Dai Jing feels a little bad that her son saw the fight, but she's also incredibly proud of him for protecting her.

Finally, it's Lao Yang's turn. He accidentally bumps a small dog in the garage. The owners go ballistic. They demand 5,000 yuan, even though the dog is perfectly fine. Lao Yang tells them to call the police. That move works. The police point out that the dog wasn't on a leash and the owners didn't have a license for it. The owners give up. Lao Yang, being a good guy, still gives them 500 yuan to get the dog checked out at a vet.

The garage saga isn't over. Dai Jing nearly hits two kids on skateboards. She films them and posts a picture (showing only their backs) in the group chat. She wants to warn other drivers and get the parents to retrieve their kids. The parents, a couple known as the "Radishes," are furious. They accuse her of posting pictures of their kids without permission, and a whole new argument starts in the chat.
