Episode Summary
Ming Yi is lured into a trap and tortured by Mu Qibai for information on Ji Bozai. While friends try to mount a rescue, Ji Bozai senses her pain and abandons his training to save her. In the aftermath, a delirious Ming Yi confesses her true love for him, which he reciprocates, only for her to get embarrassed and flee when she becomes lucid.

A Trap Springs for Ming Yi
This episode kicks off with Ming Yi doing her usual rounds. She heads to the market to check on Zhang Tai. It turns out to be a huge mistake. Sun Liao uses a trick to lure her into a dark cave. And guess who’s waiting inside. She finds Zhang Tai, but he’s not alone.
Mu Qibai reveals himself. He wants one thing. He wants to know where Ji Bozai is. Ming Yi isn't talking. She flat-out refuses. She even manages to wound Mu Qibai and makes a break for it. For a second, you think she might actually get away.
The Torture Begins
But then Chao Yu shows up. He ambushes Ming Yi from the shadows. Situ Ling is also there, completely powerless. He is forced to watch as Ming Yi gets captured and hurt. This whole scene is just brutal.
Right when things look hopeless, Twenty-Seven arrives. He's here to help. Ming Yi sees her chance. She hands Zhang Tai over to Twenty-Seven. She tells him to get Zhang Tai out of there safely. With Zhang Tai gone, Ming Yi is captured again. They start torturing her for information. Situ Ling gets on his knees and begs Chao Yu to show some mercy. Chao Yu just ignores him completely.
Ming Yi is sharp, even when she's in pain. She senses someone else is hiding behind a magical barrier. So she starts running her mouth. She taunts Mu Qibai. She calls him a pathetic puppet for a hidden master. She says his grand plan to create a beast army is a joke. This really gets under his skin. An enraged Mu Qibai orders Sun Liao to use even harsher methods on her.
A Desperate Plea for Help
Twenty-Seven makes it back to Wugui Hai with Zhang Tai. He immediately finds Granny Xun. He tells her everything about Ming Yi being in danger. The problem is the location, Dragon Carp Terrace. It has a special barrier around it. They need Ji Bozai to break through.
This is where the timing gets terrible. Ji Bozai is in the middle of absorbing a huge amount of demon energy. If he stops now, he'll lose all his progress. He could even be destroyed by the power he's trying to control. Granny Xun weighs the options. She says there is nothing she can do. Just then, Bu Xiu appears. He heard the news and decides he's not sitting this one out. He agrees to go with Twenty-Seven.
The Unkillable Guards
They arrive outside the barrier at Dragon Carp Terrace. They find a group of shadow guards standing watch. These things are creepy. You can kill them, but they just reform and get right back up. They seem to be an endless, unkillable force.
Ming Yi's Last Stand
Back in the cave, Ming Yi is a wreck. She’s covered in wounds. Situ Ling has a moment of realization. He sees that the hairpin he took from her was actually her personal weapon. He is crushed by guilt. Ming Yi then fakes her own death. It’s a ploy. She suddenly attacks Mu Qibai, trying to break the barrier and see who is hiding behind it.
Chao Yu steps in again. He seriously injures both Ming Yi and Situ Ling. Then he just stands back and watches, cold as ice. Mu Qibai sees that Ming Yi will never break. He pulls out a nasty soul-sucking artifact. It shatters her mental defenses. She gets trapped in a vision, tormented by an image of her mother screaming at her. She almost loses her mind.
Luckily, she was holding a sharp nail in her palm. The pain is enough to snap her back to reality. She keeps insisting she knows nothing about Ji Bozai or the Fleeting Dream. Her sheer willpower is incredible. It almost convinces Mu Qibai and Chao Yu that she's telling the truth.
The Cavalry Arrives
But Ji Bozai feels everything. Through their spiritual connection, he feels all of her pain. He abandons his seclusion without a second thought.
Seeing Ming Yi tortured is the last straw for Situ Ling. He completely breaks. He grabs the hairpin and kills Chao Yu. It's a shocking move. But Situ Ling has no spiritual powers. He can't break the barrier himself.
Just as Mu Qibai is about to deliver the final blow to Ming Yi, Ji Bozai appears. He literally tears through space to get there. His demon power is wild and unstable. He is consumed by a desire to kill and goes straight for Mu Qibai. Ming Yi uses the last of her strength to call out his name. Her voice pulls him back from the edge. The act also helps him finally gain full control over the demon energy.
A Shocking Confession
The fight is over, but Ming Yi isn't okay. The stress causes her own inner demons to backlash. Ji Bozai rushes her back to Wugui Hai. He places her in a mystical healing spring.
While in a daze, Ming Yi gets close to Ji Bozai. She confesses everything. She tells him her feelings for him were always real. She says she has loved him deeply from the very beginning.
Ji Bozai is floored. He suddenly remembers their time at the Meng Yuan Tan. He thought they used magic to get through the barrier there. Now he knows it was their genuine feelings for each other. He is overwhelmed with shock and joy. He leans in and kisses her. Things start getting intense. Just as they are about to go further, Ming Yi snaps back to full consciousness. She gets incredibly flustered and runs off.
