A Thaw in the Countryside
A Father's Breakthrough
The episode kicks off in the countryside. Shen Haoming hears his son, Shen Haochen, speak to him. He can hardly believe it. He thinks he might be imagining things. He runs to Grandma, completely thrilled that the boy finally talked.
Haoming tells Xu Yan that Grandma's advice actually worked. He even tries out a few cheesy romantic lines on Xu Yan. She's pretty surprised to hear them coming from him. He then admits he saw the photo album she made. He noticed it ended on the day they got divorced. He wants to take a new picture. A picture to prove they're happy now. For a moment, you can see them both just enjoying the simple life out there.
The Long Walk Home
Things aren't perfect with Haochen, though. The kid is still struggling. He tells Xu Yan he doesn't get it. He knows Haoming is his father, but Haoming acts like his brother. The whole dynamic is awkward. Xu Yan tries to comfort him. She says everyone in the family loves him. People make mistakes, but love isn't a mistake.
Later that night, Haochen gets up for a drink of water. He can't find any, so he wanders out to find a small store. Shen Haoming wakes up and sees the front door wide open. He panics when he realizes his son is gone. He eventually finds Haochen, who tries to hide from him. Haoming scolds him for running off. Then he immediately takes off his own coat and puts it on his son. He sees Haochen is just wearing slippers. So he picks him up and carries him home on his back. Haochen falls asleep right there. It looks like the ice between them is finally starting to break.
Back to Reality
The Threat at Xu Yan's Company
The family bliss can't last forever. Xu Yan tells Grandma they have to go back. Haochen is doing better, but Haoming's father is still in the hospital. Grandma is clearly sad to see them go but doesn't say it. Xu Yan gives her a tight hug.
When Xu Yan gets back to the office, she walks right into a mess. Qiao Lin fills her in on Lin Tao. It turns out he was faking being a good employee. He was really just buying time to embezzle company funds. He changed the company's financial data. Now he's using it to threaten Qiao Lin.
Xu Yan thinks about the situation. She believes Lin Tao couldn't have cooked the books that badly all by himself. Not in such a short time. She suspects there's a flaw in his plan. A loophole they can use to fight back. Meanwhile, Yu Yiming feels terrible for Qiao Lin. He knows she's under a lot of pressure and hiding it from him.
The Confrontation
Xu Yan plays it cool. She pretends she knows nothing about Lin Tao's threats. She even assigns him a new task. He's a little confused but goes along with it. Of course, he immediately threatens Qiao Lin again. He tells her to come back to him. The guy even tries to propose.
That's the last straw. Qiao Lin shows up to meet him, but she brings Yu Yiming with her. She exposes Lin Tao for the snake he is. Then she walks away with Yu Yiming. Good riddance.
The Corporate Coup
A New Boss and a New Problem
The drama isn't just at Xu Yan's company. A new guy, Mr. Qu, has just taken over at Haoming's firm. The board of directors immediately puts him to the test. They give him an extremely difficult performance agreement he has to meet during his probation. He agrees to it. He wants to secure his spot at the top.
Shen Haoming isn't worried about any of this. He's completely confident he can win this fight. We learn that Mr. Huang, a senior figure, is actually on Haoming's side. They are secretly planning to take down Mr. Qu together. Mr. Qu is arrogant. He even brags to Mr. Huang that he's kicked the Shen family out of the picture. He says he's the one in charge now.
The Double-Cross
Mr. Huang sends a weird signal. He's jogging with Haoming and seems happy. Then he tells Haoming he wants to run the second half of the route by himself. Haoming is a little confused by this but doesn't argue. Back at the office, everyone starts to panic. They think Mr. Huang has abandoned Haoming's side.
Mr. Qu tries to consolidate his power. He sends another employee, Han Weiping, away on an assignment to get him out of the way. We also see that some guy named Steve is pulling strings in the background. He's trying to make Han Weiping think his godfather has betrayed him.
The final showdown happens at a big bidding meeting. Mr. Qu tries to make a deal with Haoming, thinking he has all the power. Haoming knows exactly what the old fox is up to. Then, Mr. Huang makes his move. He completely turns on Mr. Qu in front of everyone. He hands all of his bidding materials over to Shen Haoming. He then formally reports Mr. Qu for sabotaging the bidding process. Mr. Qu has no choice but to leave in complete defeat.
