Episode Summary
A foreign company hires Frank to acquire Dr. Shen's research. Shen wants to return to China, but his investor, Zhou Tianna, needs his project to save her failing company. After Shen rejects Frank, Frank makes a deal with Tianna. To force Shen's hand, Tianna reveals he has a secret daughter, Shen Yang, and gets her a job at her company as leverage.

A Foreign Offer and a Big Problem
So, a foreign company called Gaia Group has its eyes on Dr. Shen's gene research. They see huge dollar signs. To get their hands on it, they hire a Chinese guy named Frank. His job is simple. Get Dr. Shen.
At the same time, Dr. Shen has a major breakthrough. He's thrilled. He tells his team they're finally ready to go back to China. He shares the good news with Zhou Tianna. She has been funding his work for years. She acts happy for him.
But she is absolutely not happy. If he goes back to China, his project becomes a national one. Her investment goes up in smoke. And her company is already facing a financial crisis. She needs a return on her money, and she needs it now. She tells Dr. Shen she'll look into the policies for him. It's just a way to stall for time.
Frank Changes His Strategy
Frank manages to get a meeting with Dr. Shen. He finds out which restaurant Shen likes and uses his friendship with the owner to get an introduction. Smart move. They both know why he's there. Frank wants to partner up. Dr. Shen knows it's because of his research.
But Dr. Shen gives him a hard no. He is a Chinese scientist. He will not hand over his work to a foreign company. The conversation is short and to the point.
So Frank pivots. He can't get to Shen directly. He decides to go after Zhou Tianna instead. He knows her company is bleeding money. He sees an opportunity for them to help each other. They meet and agree on a price. Frank pays her a deposit to show he's serious. He's confident she can convince Dr. Shen.
Tianna Plays Her Dirtiest Card
Tianna's conversation with Dr. Shen about returning to China does not go well. He's set on it. So she decides to get personal. Really personal.
She brings up his old girlfriend, Yang Shuting. They broke up over a disagreement. Yang Shuting went back to China. We learn she was pregnant with Dr. Shen's child. She kept it a secret from him and planned to raise the baby alone. But she died from complications during childbirth.
The baby survived. Her name is Shen Yang. She lives with her grandmother. Dr. Shen has been secretly sending them money all this time. Tianna then hands Dr. Shen a baby hair brush. She tells him he's a gene specialist. He can run a test himself. That is cold.
Two Worlds Collide
Remember the girl who got zapped by Chen Hansheng's electric fence? That's Shen Yang. Lei Peng remembered Chen Hansheng thought she was interesting. He gets her contact info from Qiu Tian and sets up a meeting.
Chen Hansheng doesn't want to go. But Ling Zhengrong overhears and pushes him to go make a friend. Then Ling Zhengrong feels awkward about it. He ends up dragging Lei Peng along to meet her too.
The three of them have dinner. They become friends. Shen Yang and Chen Hansheng discover they have something in common. She was raised by her grandmother. He was raised by his grandfather. She tells them she just moved to Yuehai for an internship at Ruihe. That's Tianna's company.
This is exactly the leverage Tianna wanted. She uses Shen Yang's new job to threaten Dr. Shen. She tells him she already received Frank's deposit. They are both past the point of no return.
