Spoiler Alert
Man Wai-sam's Haunted Mind
Man Wai-sam is not doing well. At all. Her insomnia is getting worse. She keeps seeing flashbacks of George and Yam Sai-hung's accidents every time she closes her eyes. So, she finally goes to a therapist, a Dr. Yeung.
The doctor tells her Yam's death was just a trigger. The real problem, the thing that's been messing with her head, is George's accident. Dr. Yeung suggests hypnosis to help her remember what happened on that stormy day.
We get a flashback through the hypnosis. SNK News had posted a news bounty. They offered a huge reward for anyone who could snag an exclusive. Man, who had already quit at this point, guessed George was going after it. She ran to the scene to stop him. It turns out George didn't post the fake news alert. But he was dead set on getting that story to prove himself. She couldn't stop him. She just watched him walk toward the sewer area.
Then she jolts awake. She can't remember the most important part. The actual accident. Dr. Yeung is worried she can't handle the full memory yet. He schedules another session for later.
An Unlikely Alliance Forms
Things get interesting here. Cheung Ka-yin, Hui Sze-ching, and Lau Yim all show up at George's parents' house. They want the parents to reopen the investigation into his death. The parents are immediately hostile to Cathy. They still blame her for their son's divorce. Cathy tries to explain it was a misunderstanding, but they don't want to hear it.
Just then, Man Wai-sam arrives. She backs them up. She tells the parents she was the last person to see George at the scene. She insists it was not just an accident. This gets their attention. They agree to think about it.
Later, the three women get together for drinks at Hui Sze-ching's place. It's a rare sight to see these three working together. Lau Yim is practically giddy about it. They make a plan to get justice for George. Cathy will investigate quietly inside SNK. Hui Sze-ching will monitor the public platform. Man will keep trying to unlock her memory of that day.
The Inquest Begins
George's parents came through. They decided to hold a new inquest into his death. Mrs. Fong is, of course, worried about SNK's stock price. She demands that the stock can't take a major hit. But she agrees not to interfere with what happens inside the company.
The hearing starts. Cathy is the first witness. She explains that she and George were peers. She talks about when Koo Chiu-wah first took over. He was not happy about having two deputy news directors. His news philosophy was totally different from theirs. Koo only cares about ratings and profit. She says in their very first meeting, he made it clear he only wanted one of them to stay.
Hui Sze-ching testifies next as a former colleague. She talks about a government press conference on the storm. George was there for SNK. They chatted afterward. He complained about Koo, saying he didn't have Man's talent and wasn't easy to deal with like Yu Ying-fei. Hui Sze-ching knew George wanted her help with something. She agreed to work with him, as long as it was a win-win situation.
Then it's Koo Chiu-wah's turn. He admits he said he only wanted one deputy director. But he swears he never meant for anyone to get hurt. He paints a picture of George constantly trying to one-up Cathy. According to Koo, George would argue he was more experienced and had connections in the government. Most importantly, George never disagreed with him. Koo says that when they were planning the storm coverage, Cathy wanted to focus on public safety stories. George, on the other hand, went along with Koo's idea to send a pretty anchor to the scene to get higher ratings.
The Lines Are Drawn
During a break, Man goes to see Yu Ying-fei. She thinks it's suspicious that George's two best friends aren't at the hearing. She's clearly talking about Chris. But Chris says even if they showed up, they wouldn't dare cross Koo. He tells her she has to find more information on her own.
Man's not giving up. She has Sai Man-chi post a notice looking for a witness. Then she goes back to her therapist, trying to force the memory out. Dr. Yeung refuses to do another hypnosis session. He warns her that pushing too hard could make things worse.
The episode ends with a direct confrontation. Koo corners Cathy. He tells her she's making a huge mistake. He warns that by defying him and Mrs. Fong, she's going to lose her job and get blacklisted from the entire Hong Kong news industry. Cathy doesn't flinch. She tells him she's already thought about the consequences. She will always stick to the core principles of journalism. She believes in right and wrong, black and white. She says Koo is the one who lives in the gray area.
