A Tense Rescue
The Blame Game
The episode picks up right after Chu Yu gets drugged. Wei Yun carries her back to her courtyard. It’s a pretty dramatic scene. Of course, they run into her brother, Chu Linyang, and Song Qingping.
You learn that Song Qingping knows medicine. Chu Linyang asks her to help his sister with the drugged incense. He lies to cover for Chu Yu. He claims she just grabbed the wrong incense by accident. Song Qingping buys it for now.
While she works on Chu Yu, Wei Yun and Chu Linyang have a chat in the garden. It is not a friendly chat. They both suspect each other. Chu Linyang thinks Wei Yun might be behind the incident. After all, it happened in his house. Wei Yun is annoyed that Chu Linyang even brought Chu Jin to the party. He knows the sisters don't get along. Their conversation is cold until Song Qingping returns. Then they go back to being polite on the surface.
The Real Mission
Finding the Armory
Wei Yun sends a bowl of milk for Chu Yu. She doesn't drink it. Instead, she gives it to a little dog named Xiao Qi. Smart move. You can't trust anything from that house.
Her real plan is still in motion. She needs to get into the Armory Division. Her maid, Wanyue, had tried to tail Wei Yun before. She only found a random mountain, not the actual location. But now, her brother Chu Linyang has come through. He found the exact location of the Armory.
The only thing missing is the Fish Tally. It's basically a key that grants access. Chu Yu figures Wei Yun must have it now that he's officially inherited his title. She just needs to find a way to get her hands on it.
A New Alliance
Chu Linyang escorts Song Qingping back to her home at the Duke of Hu's estate. She is clearly developing a crush on him. She also notices his old war injury is pretty bad. It's affecting his health more than he lets on. She offers to treat him.
He agrees. He says she reminds him of his younger sisters because she's so innocent. This feels like he's putting her squarely in the friend zone, but she seems happy just to help.
Trouble at the Duke's Estate
A Harsh Punishment
The Duke of Hu is not happy. His kids went to the Wei family's banquet without his permission. The Emperor gets paranoid when powerful military families get too friendly. So, the Duke punishes all three of them. Chu Linyang, Chu Yu, and Chu Jin all have to copy books.
Song Qingping hears about this and gets angry. She complains that a man like Li Huan can keep a mistress with no consequences. But she gets in trouble just for offering to treat a friend's injury. She has a point. The double standards are frustrating.
Chu Jin's Confession
Chu Linyang isn't done with his sister Chu Jin. He makes her kneel in the ancestral hall all night. Their mother, Xie Yun, is heartbroken, but Chu Linyang is determined to make his sister understand her mistake.
He goes into the hall to confront her. She says she knows she was wrong. He immediately calls her out. He tells her she's just saying the words. She doesn't actually get what she did wrong. This finally gets her to be honest. She admits she just wants his approval. She wants him to see her the way he sees Chu Yu. He tells her that to get that approval, she needs to grow up and become a real adult.
Later, he speaks with his mother. He promises to try harder with Chu Jin. He also asks her to be kinder to Chu Yu and to understand what she's been through.
The Heist
Stealing the Fish Tally
Back at the Wei mansion, the party is over. The late generals' wives are preparing to leave. Wei Yun gives them his brothers' long spears as parting gifts. Jiang Chun, Yao Jue, and Xie Jiu say their goodbyes. But one wife, Wang Lan, tears up her release papers. She decides to stay at the Wei residence.
That night, Chu Yu puts her plan into action. Her maid Wanyue creates a distraction for Wei Yun's guard, Wei Qiu. This gives Chu Yu a chance to sneak into Wei Yun's study. She then uses the dog, Xiao Qi, to lure Wei Yun out of the room. With him gone, she searches his desk and finds it. The Fish Tally.
She takes it and leaves. Wei Yun watches her go. He knows her target was the tally. He says to himself that she shouldn't blame him for what he does next.
A Mole in the Armory
The final scene is inside the Armory Division. Wei Yun is having a meeting with a man named Lu Qiba. Lu Qiba tosses him a small mechanism. He says he's studied it. It looks almost exactly like the Armory's Eight-sided Crossbow. But it wasn't made there.
He's sure it was built using the Armory's official blueprints. This means the plans were leaked. There is a mole inside the Armory Division. Lu Qiba says he has a lead and suggests they work together.
Just then, a soldier runs in with a report. Lu Qiba listens, then jumps to his feet. He turns to Wei Yun, furious. He demands to know why Wei Yun gave his Fish Tally to someone else. It looks like the tally Chu Yu stole wasn't Wei Yun's after all.
