A Normal Day Turns Tragic

The Prenatal Appointment

He Lihua took Jianqi's car. So, he starts riding his bike to work. This makes Lihua furious for some reason. She goes to Shen Mingzhu to complain and says she's done dealing with him.

Meanwhile, Mingzhu and Jianqi have a prenatal check-up scheduled. Jianqi is running late. Mingzhu calls to see where he is. He tells her he's on his way, pedaling as fast as he can.

A Hero's Final Act

This is where it all goes wrong. While biking to the hospital, Jianqi sees a little boy drowning in the water. He doesn't hesitate. He drops everything and jumps in to save the child.

Mingzhu waits at the hospital for a long time. Jianqi never shows. Then she sees an ambulance pull up. They're rushing Jianqi into the emergency room. The doctors do everything they can. But it's too late. He drowned while saving the boy. Feng Jianqi is dead.

Picking Up the Pieces

A Family in Shock

Mingzhu is completely devastated. Her world is shattered in an instant. Jianqi's sister, Feng Meiqi, flies home from abroad for the funeral. She does her best to comfort Mingzhu.

Jianqi's mother, He Lihua, is not handling it well at all. She's in total shock. She refuses to eat, drink, or sleep. She just keeps repeating that her son was a champion swimmer. She believes he couldn't possibly have drowned. Her husband, Old Feng, and Meiqi are incredibly worried about her.

Two Families, One Unborn Child

After the funeral, the Feng family calls the Shen family for a meeting. They have a proposal for Mingzhu. They want her to have the baby. They promise to pay for all the child's expenses, forever. They even offer to sign the house over to her.

Shen Minghui immediately objects. He argues that his sister is still young. She shouldn't be trapped and tied to the Feng family for the rest of her life. Mingzhu speaks up. She vows she will never marry again anyway. But she still refuses to call He Lihua "Mom."

He Lihua makes a surprising announcement. She says she will treat Mingzhu like her own daughter. She tells Mingzhu that if she finds someone else, she is free to remarry. All they ask is that she leaves the child with them. They need a part of Jianqi to remember him by. Mingzhu agrees. She will have the baby.
