Episode Summary
In this episode, Yu Yu's difficult personality causes friction at work and in his personal life, leading to a forced apology and a lonely birthday. His attempt to help his neighbor, Xia Xiaoman, lands them both in the hospital, where he crosses paths with Dr. Gu Yejia again. After an emergency surgery, he continues to baffle Gu Yejia and his colleague Lin Sa with his strange behavior and rigid principles.

The Blind Date Expert
The episode kicks off with Yu Yu learning something new. Shen Wu gave their noisy neighbor, Xia Xiaoman, some money as an apology. Yu Yu thinks this is ridiculous. He believes the honor of his praise should have been enough.
Then we see him with his brother-in-law. The guy is being super respectful. He's trying to convince Yu Yu to finally get his surgery. Yu Yu just calls him a hypocrite.
Later, we catch up with Gu Yejia. She's just trying to have a meal. Her father ambushes her with a video call. He's found a loophole in their "one last blind date this month" deal. He's set up an online speed-dating session with a ton of guys. Gu Yejia is furious and hangs up.
Of course, Yu Yu is sitting nearby and saw the whole thing. He decides to give her some unsolicited advice. He tells her she needs to loosen up and not be so picky. He says it will give her more options. Gu Yejia just thinks he's a total weirdo and walks off. I'm with her on this one.
Apologies Are Hard
Yu Yu's personality is costing him. He's a designer, but his stubbornness is driving away clients. His firm has fewer and fewer customers. We also learn he got into a fight with his mentor. Now, his company is forcing him to apologize.
Before that, he stops at a store. He spots a clerk he once tried to hit on. He pulls out his ID, trying to make her remember him. She gives him a blank stare. It's awkward. Finally, he swallows his pride and goes to apologize to his mentor.
A Birthday Nobody Wants to Celebrate
Office Gossip
Shen Wu tells Lin Sa that this is the first time Yu Yu has ever apologized. This is apparently huge news. Lin Sa would know. She's worked with Yu Yu for about eight years. Shen Wu jokes that Lin Sa should just date Yu Yu. He says she'd be doing society a favor by taking him off the market. Lin Sa is not having it. She says she has no desire to sacrifice herself for the greater good.
It's also Yu Yu's birthday. The office staff thought about throwing him a party. They decided against it. They figured he's so particular that he'd probably just call it childish. They're probably right.
The Awkward Birthday Wishes
Yu Yu finds out his brother-in-law is using his secret stash of money to buy a camera. Yu Yu thinks it's shady. But he still gives the guy a bank card and tells him to go buy a cake.
Shen Wu gets tasked with calling Yu Yu. He's terrified he's going to get an earful. He makes the call but chickens out on actually mentioning the birthday. Lin Sa also sends Yu Yu a "happy birthday" text. She immediately regrets it and retracts the message.
The Neighbor Situation Escalates
A Balcony Rescue
Xia Xiaoman is going through a bad breakup. Her friend calls Yu Yu and asks him to check on her. Yu Yu's brain works differently than ours. He decides the best way to help is to use a rope to climb from his balcony over to hers. He completely terrifies her.
After that adventure, he's back in his apartment. He sets up a small cake with candles. He's trying to give himself a nice birthday moment. Right as he's about to make a wish, a noise from next door ruins it.
It's Xia Xiaoman. He ends up having to call an ambulance for her. The two of them are starting to look like a pair of hospital buddies.
A Hospital Birthday
At the hospital, Yu Yu secretly orders another birthday cake. He finds a quiet corner, makes his wish, and then does something surprising. He shares a piece with Gu Yejia. He even apologizes for what he said about her blind dating.
Just as he's about to leave, he feels a sharp pain in his rear. He gets dragged right back into the hospital for surgery. Gu Yejia, who is a doctor, tells Yu Yu's friend that she'll handle the operation herself.
While this is happening, Xia Xiaoman tells Gu Yejia she drank so much because of her breakup. Gu Yejia decides to take her out to blow off some steam. We see that Gu Yejia is also feeling the pressure. She's an older woman, and her family's constant push for blind dates is making her anxious.
The Aftermath
The next day, Yu Yu sends a gift to Gu Yejia at work. It's a silk banner. The message on it is basically a backhanded compliment, praising her while also insulting her. Classic Yu Yu.
Later, Gu Yejia mentions a "tumor" during a conversation. Yu Yu's mind immediately leaps to cancer. He starts talking about writing a will. She just finds him bizarrely funny.
The episode closes with Yu Yu at work. He's explaining his design philosophy. He says he pursues a feeling of happiness, not just monetary value. This is why he uses expensive materials. The client is not impressed. He says he just wants a cheap renovation so he can rent the house out for profit. Yu Yu basically tells the client to get lost. Lin Sa watches the whole thing, thinking her coworker has completely lost his mind.
