Cen Jin heads back to her parents' house for a meal. The secret is out. She can’t hide the divorce any longer. Her mom is upset. She blames herself for not seeing through Wu Fu sooner. But mostly, she just hurts for her daughter. She tells Cen Jin to get a shark of a lawyer. She wants Cen Jin to fight for every single asset she deserves.
Her dad takes a different approach. Cen Jin finally admits how much the demotion at work stung. She feels like the company picked Wu Fu over her. Her dad disagrees. He points out that Wu Fu is currently managing profitable projects. The company just followed the money. It wasn't a dig at her skill. Cen Jin accepts this logic. She still feels the weight of her failure, but having her parents in her corner makes it bearable.
Packing Up and Moving On
Back at the office, it is time to pack. Cen Jin clears out her desk. Her colleagues give her a bouquet of daylilies. They want her to forget her worries. It is a sweet gesture. Then her phone buzzes. It is Wu Fu. He wants to meet on Saturday to sign the divorce papers.
The holiday break starts. Li Wu finishes his monthly exams. Cen Jin picks him up. The kid is still a ball of tension in her house. He won't pick a TV channel. He won't even choose which fruit to eat.
Dinner reveals a problem. Cen Jin notices Li Wu looks thinner. She asks about his food budget. He spends almost nothing. This makes her angry. She doesn't want him starving himself to save her money. Li Wu stays home to study. Cen Jin heads out to face the music. She meets Wu Fu and signs the agreement. He asks about her future. She looks him in the eye. Cen Jin goes to a park to decompress. She finally feels free. Wu Fu, however, ignores her instructions. He drives to her apartment to drop off the box.
Li Wu answers the door. This is a great moment. The kid knows Wu Fu cheated. He looks at the man with pure hostility. Wu Fu assumes the kid is mad about the sponsorship money stopping. But he feels the intimidation. Li Wu has hit a growth spurt. He towers over the ex-husband. It is a satisfying power shift.
A Fake Birthday and Dorm Drama
Wu Fu leaves. Li Wu gets a notification on his phone. It says it is Cen Jin’s birthday. He uses his own money to order a small cake.
Cen Jin comes home. She sees Wu Fu’s box and immediately throws it outside. She tells Li Wu to never open the door for that man again. Then she sees the cake. She has to explain the truth. She just put a fake date into a store membership for a discount. It isn't her birthday. But she sees his effort. She decides to celebrate anyway.
Back at school, the grades come out. Li Wu takes first place in Physics. But he ranks seventy-eighth overall. He wanted top thirty. He is disappointed. His friend Cheng Rui tells him to relax. He is already doing better than most people could dream of.
Cen Jin embraces her new chapter. She cleans her apartment and fills it with flowers. She posts a "new life" photo on social media.
Things get messy in the dorms. Lin Honglang catches Li Wu using the smartphone. The roommates freak out. They grab the phone and snoop. They see he only has one contact: Cen Jin. The gossip starts immediately. They speculate about his relationship with this woman. Li Wu panics. To shut them up, he grabs a textbook and offers to tutor them.
