The Code and the Stall
Things kick off with high tension. He Xian and Ke Lin had a plan involving secret codes. They agreed on specific phrases to signal if Asahina woke up or not. Guo Qiwen calls He Xian. She uses the phrase that means "Plan B." That tells He Xian the witness is still unconscious. He has to improvise.
He Xian hangs up and digs his heels in. He tells Sawa Eisaku that he won't talk until Imai Keiichi wakes up. Sawa didn't expect this stubbornness. It puts him in a bad spot. Imai Keiichi wakes up and isn't happy with Sawa's performance. He yells at Sawa for being incompetent. He gives Sawa a strict one-hour deadline to fix this. If Sawa fails, Imai says he will take over the negotiations himself.
A Tragic Gambit
Qiao Yinwan plays a dangerous game. She listens through the wall and hears Sawa talking to Huang Gongjie. She learns exactly where they are keeping He Chengxi and Zai Zai. She needs to get that info out. She smashes a vase on purpose. Sawa rushes in. He thinks he can use her as leverage against He Xian. He drags her to the meeting.
Sawa threatens to execute Qiao Yinwan as a spy right there. He thinks this will force He Xian to fold. Qiao Yinwan asks for a private moment with He Xian. Sawa agrees but keeps the room bugged. She tells He Xian not to be impulsive. She whispers a heavy line about selflessness making a person invincible.
Then she picks up her violin. She plays "Bon Voyage." It’s a gut-wrenching moment. The song ends. She turns around and throws herself through the glass window. She falls to her death. Luobo runs over, sobbing. He sees her palm. She wrote an address in lipstick: Yale Tea House on Fulong New Street. She sacrificed herself to pass the intel.
The Hospital Bluff
Imai Keiichi sees the body and loses his temper. He demands to see He Xian personally. He apologizes for the chaos. He Xian holds back his grief and goes on the offensive. He claims someone is using Imai as a pawn. He drops a bomb. He lies and says Asahina is awake and has evidence identifying the real killer.
Sawa panics. He assumes Macau officials blocked the news. Imai wants to verify this immediately. He heads to the hospital. Sawa insists on tagging along to "protect" him. Yamaguchi spots a food cart with leftovers. He assumes the food was for the patient. This convinces Sawa the witness is actually awake. He blames Shadan Biao for failing the first assassination attempt. He orders Shadan Biao to finish the job now to redeem himself.
The Trap Springs
They arrive at the hospital. Ke Lin runs interference. He tells them the patient is unstable and sedated. He asks them to wait twenty minutes. He invites Imai to his office. This is the opening Sawa needed. He signals Shadan Biao.
Shadan Biao sneaks into the hospital room. He pulls his weapon. But the bed is empty. It was a setup. Ke Lin and Imai burst into the room. The jig is up. Yamaguchi realizes they are caught. He pulls his gun and shoots Shadan Biao dead right there. He silences the only loose end.
Imai sees through it all now. He calls Sawa and orders him to stand down. He warns that General Matsui will hear about this mess. At the same time, Ma Wanqi makes his move. He organizes students and citizens. They flood the streets in protest against the blockade. The Japanese forces are stretched thin across other battlefields. They have no reinforcements to send.
