The Standoff at the Hotel
Things are looking grim outside the hotel. The crowd is screaming, but inside, the tension is suffocating. Sawa Eisaku is desperate. He has He Chengxi and Zai Zai as hostages. He tries to squeeze He Xian. He wants the strategic goods list. He wants the underground transport routes. He even wants He Xian to finger Shadan Biao as a Communist spy.
He Xian gets on the phone. He hears Zai Zai’s terrified voice. It breaks his heart. But He Chengxi is different. He is calm. He ignores the danger and asks his son three specific questions. It’s a family tradition. It keeps them grounded.
The Tables Turn
Sawa loses his patience. He orders Wang Qiuzai to kill the hostages. He is too late. Huang Zixia kicks down the door with the Dahao Gang. They grab the boy and his father. The leverage is gone.
Sawa is furious. He points his gun right at He Xian. He Xian doesn't flinch. He tells Sawa that invaders always lose in the end. Then the phone rings. It’s the Japanese command. The game is up. They order a full retreat. The blockade on Macau is over. Sawa is stripped of his power and faces an internal investigation. He Xian walks out of the hotel. The crowd erupts. It sounds like a tsunami of cheers.
The Lights Come Back On
August 1945 rolls around. Japan surrenders unconditionally. The long nightmare is over. Macau isn't an isolated island anymore. The streets are bright again. Fireworks explode overhead. Everyone looks up. We remember the people who didn't make it to this party. Liang Yanming, Rodrigues, Huang Sanhe, the Qiao brothers. They aren't just names. They are the reason the city has its dignity back.
No Way Out for Traitors
The Portuguese government stays neutral. They have to escort the Japanese personnel out safely. Huang Gongjie is panicking. He knows he has a target on his back. He begs Sawa to take him along. Sawa laughs in his face. He tells Huang that traitors who sell out their ancestors deserve what’s coming.
Huang tries to buy his way out. He pays a boatman for a secret ride. The boatman drugs his wine. Huang wakes up with a headache in Wuguishan. He isn't free. He is sitting in front of Ou Xin and Long Haishan. They make him write down every crime the Sawa Agency committed.
Justice is Served
Yang Chang takes that confession and moves fast. He catches Sawa and Yamaguchi Kumi right before they escape Guangdong. Later, a court sentences them both to death.
Huang Gongjie gets a different kind of justice. Ou Xin hands him over to the Macau police. Luobo and Guanye take him to a quiet spot. They "accidentally" leave the key to his handcuffs. Huang thinks he is lucky. He runs. He doesn't get far. The Dahao Gang is waiting in the bushes. They gun him down.
A New Era Begins
