Episode Summary
Nie Chengyuan tries to break up Xiguang and Lin Yusen by claiming Lin caused his own car accident while chasing Xiguang's sister for money. Xiguang confronts Lin, only to discover the tragic truth. Lin's friend admits he mixed up the sisters years ago. Lin crashed his car and lost his medical career because he was driving to meet Xiguang, not her sister.

Nie Chengyuan keeps his ear to the ground regarding the Sheng family. He hears Sheng Xianmin plans a big banquet next month. Nie bets everything that Sheng Xianmin will name Sheng Bokai as the heir. He chats with Bokai about business. Nie is surprised to hear Lin Yusen actually secured funding at Shuangyuan. He didn't expect that. Sheng Bokai plays it cool though. He claims Lin only gets the dead-end projects anyway.
Nie Chengyuan doesn't trust it. He orders his assistant to investigate Lin Yusen. He wants dirt on his work and his personal life.
Meanwhile, Qian Fangping is busy spending money. She takes Nianyuan shopping and then pushes Nie to come home for dinner. Nie is in a rush to get back to Wuxi. Qian Fangping pulls out a pair of cufflinks in the car. She says Nianyuan bought them with her own money. It works. Nie is touched. He promises to send Qian Fangping more cash as soon as he gets back.
Back to the Grind
The holidays wrap up. Nie Xiguang heads back to the office in Suzhou. She brings gifts for everyone. Her colleague, Mr. Hua, worries about the budget for the solar garden project. Xiguang reassures him. She says Lin Yusen supports the plan fully. She tells the team to make a precise budget immediately. Hua worries about rising costs. Xiguang shuts that down. She claims Lin cares about long-term gains, not short-term pennies. She praises Lin to the high heavens. The team gets to work.
Dinner and Rehab
Work ends. Lin Yusen asks Xiguang to stop by his apartment to pick up some books. He prepared a huge box. Xiguang wants to take them all. Lin stops her. He makes a rule that she can only borrow two at a time. This guarantees she has to come back.
He cooks a simple dinner while she picks her books. Xiguang notices a bowl of soybeans on his desk. She saw them in his office too. She asks about them. Lin admits he uses them for hand rehabilitation. Xiguang thinks about his ruined career as a doctor. It hurts her to see this. She grabs his hand in a moment of sympathy. He says three years ago, Lin Yusen tried to court Ma Nianyuan to get close to the family. That car accident happened while Lin was driving to meet her. Nie says Lin ruined his hand chasing clout.
The Truth About the Crash
Xiguang is shaken. She never heard this story. She rushes to find Lin Yusen for answers.
Lin thinks they are just grabbing dinner. Xiguang confronts him with her father's story. Lin looks totally confused. He says he doesn't know anyone named "Ma Nianyuan."
He explains his side. His friend Shao Jiaqi told him "Nie Chengyuan's daughter" invited him to Wuxi to see plum blossoms. Lin remembered meeting Xiguang at a birthday party previously. He drove there thinking he was meeting her. Xiguang doesn't remember the invite.
They need proof. Lin calls Shao Jiaqi immediately. They go to Shao's house. Shao looks guilty. He admits the mistake. He only recently realized the girl interested in Lin was the illegitimate daughter, not Xiguang. He didn't know the difference back then. The misunderstanding clears up. Xiguang is overwhelmed. Lin Yusen didn't crash his car chasing money. He crashed his car because he was rushing to see her.
