Episode Summary
Li Lianbao tries to sell his house to buy back company shares after Dong Qian refuses to use company funds. Ma Weiguo decides to undergo surgery after a heart-to-heart with Grandpa Tong. Things are getting messy. Li Lianbao is on a warpath to buy back Kevin’s shares. He is obsessed. He goes to Dong Qian first. He wants the company to foot the bill. Dong Qian shuts that down immediately. She knows business. You don't kick out an original shareholder right after launching. Investors hate that. It looks unstable. She refuses to let him wreck the company’s reputation.
That doesn't stop Lianbao. The three brothers meet up to talk him off the ledge. It doesn't work. He is stubborn. Wang Chunsheng and Tong Qiu are loyal to a fault. They dump their life savings on the table. Ma Weiguo thinks the business move is stupid. He says so. But he is a brother first. He offers to cover the rest of the funds. Lianbao won't take their money. He has a crazier plan. He is going to sell his house.
The Intervention Fails
Wang Chunsheng is desperate. He goes back to Dong Qian. He begs her to talk sense into Lianbao. She is hesitant. She knows these guys are tight. Domestic Shifts
Wang Chunsheng is so focused on Lianbao that he ignores his own kid. He and his wife, Li Jing, are busy counting their savings to help the friend. Wang Fei tries to show them his school enrollment papers. They barely look. They tell him to choose for himself. Wang Fei is weirded out. Usually, his dad is a helicopter parent. Seeing his parents so united and loving is nice, though. He leaves them to it.
Meanwhile, Jin Tong is glued to Ma Weiguo. She is filming his daily life for her project. She explains to Wang Fei why she needs to hold her art exhibition domestically. She is finding her roots.
Tong Qiu’s Secret Struggle
Tong Qiu is having a rough time. He can't find a corporate job. He starts driving a ride-share car to make ends meet. He isn't good at it yet. He misses a turn. A passenger yells at him. It is humiliating.
He hides this from his dad. He goes home and lies. He says he landed a job. He wants the old man to relax. His phone pings with a new ride order right in the middle of their talk. It is painful to watch.
A Life Saved, A Life Lost
Grandpa Tong is hiding his own secret. He is sick. He feels the end coming. He calls Tong Qiu home for a meal. He just wants to see his son. They eat together. It feels like a final farewell.
Grandpa Tong visits Ma Weiguo next. They look at old photos. The old man tells Ma Weiguo to stop moping. He tells him to fight. He says life is worth living. This actually gets through. Ma Weiguo finally decides to get the surgery. He stops waiting to die. He tells Jin Tong the news. She hugs him. It is a massive win.
But the win is short-lived. Grandpa Tong goes out for a walk. He collapses. The neighbors find him and call an ambulance. Tong Qiu rushes to the hospital. He is too late. His father is gone. The episode ends with Tong Qiu sitting alone in the courtyard. He is drowning in memories.
