Better Halves Episode 6: A Kiss, a Rival, and Meddling Brothers
The tangled web of affection and duty gets even more complicated for Shi Feke and Lu Chi. Following a night of drinking, a bold Shi Feke actually kisses Lu Chi.When she wakes the next morning with a new makeup style, her memory of the night's events is hazy at best.Meanwhile, a delighted Lu Chi can't hide his happiness over this development, a change that his attendant, Li Pan'er, quickly notices.
A new challenge arises in the form of the Marquis of Wu'an, who is scheming to get his hands on the construction plans for the Imperial City.His target is the Shen family, who were involved in the original construction. To get close to them, the Marquis decides to arrange a marriage for Shen Tongyun, tasking the ambitious Matchmaker Deng with the job.
To stay one step ahead, Shi Feke learns of Matchmaker Deng's assignment and decides to approach Shen Tongyun herself.Shen Tongyun is thrilled to meet the famous matchmaker and confides that she has her heart set on a certain gentleman, asking for Shi Feke's help. To Shi Feke's shock and burgeoning jealousy, that man is none other than Lu Chi.When Lu Chi appears, Shen Tongyun makes her intentions clear.In a decisive move, Lu Chi has Li Pan'er escort a reluctant Shen Tongyun out, keeping Shi Feke behind.Outside, Shen Tongyun is immediately intercepted by Matchmaker Deng.
Alone, Lu Chi confronts Shi Feke, questioning her about the drunken kiss and why she is so determined to take on this matchmaking case.Shi Feke dodges the question about the kiss, explaining that she must snatch this high-profile case from Matchmaker Deng to secure her precarious position at the official matchmaking agency.When Lu Chi refuses to play along, Shi Feke desperately tries to pair Shen Tongyun with He Kexian instead, but his protective sister, He Ketian, sees through the ruse and angrily sends Shi Feke away, knowing her brother's heart belongs to Shi Feke.
Later, a misunderstanding brews when Shi Feke sees Lu Chi near Shen Tongyun, believing he has feelings for her rival. In a fit of jealousy, she sprains her ankle. Lu Chi appears and sweeps her into his arms to carry her home, but they are stopped by Shi Feke's older brother, who promptly snatches her from Lu Chi and carries her home himself.
Shi Feke's family, believing Lu Chi to be a scoundrel, forbids her from seeing him. Her two brothers begin to watch her every move. Lu Chi manages to sneak her away for a bowl of noodles, but the brothers find them and proceed to eat all their food.Lu Chi cleverly orders an enormous amount of noodles until the brothers are too stuffed to continue.As they try to find something else to eat, Shi Feke's second brother, Shi Chongshan, ambushes them, and Lu Chi is injured.
Shi Feke takes the injured Lu Chi to her home to care for him.Faced with her father's disapproval, she finally reveals some of the ways Lu Chi has secretly helped her and her family in the past.As she diligently tends to him, she fails to notice that Lu Chi, who is only pretending to be unconscious, has already woken up. Meanwhile, her mother discovers the scheming of her husband and sons and gives them a stern lecture.
