"The Wonderful World" Episode 10: A Web of Deceit and Genuine Affection
The episode opens with Shi Diandian, who feels a renewed spark of life, symbolized by her newfound intolerance for a wilting flower. Her father, Lao Shi, notices this change, a light in her eyes he hasn't seen in three years. Xu Tian believes he is the source of that light. To celebrate, Diandian insists on cooking dinner for them, revealing a thoughtful plan to buy an expensive food processor, waiting for a sale, just to cook for Xu Tian every day.
Meanwhile, at the dance academy, a rehearsal goes poorly. Yang Yun is off her game, and Qiao Mi makes several mistakes, distracted by Wen Xiaoyao, who is busy studying recipes to impress her potential future mother-in-law. Their director, Zhao Gang, reprimands them. Qiao Mi confesses she was distracted by Xiaoyao's efforts to win over her boyfriend Zhou Tong's family.
This "relationship" is far more complicated than it seems. Zhou Tong's father, Song Guanwang, visits the academy and overhears that Xiaoyao's romance with his son is merely "experiencing life" for a role. Alarmed, he confronts Zhao Gang, who admits the idea was originally his but claims he was unaware of the family connection.
The situation comes to a head at a dinner Wen Xiaoyao cooks at Zhou Tong's home. Song Guanwang is already wary and his mood sours further as Xiaoyao is constantly on the phone with a miserable Qiao Mi, even taking photos to "prove" her happiness. When asked where Zhou Tong ranks in her heart, Xiaoyao's honest but thoughtless answer further convinces Song Guanwang that she is disrespecting his son. After she leaves, he throws out the leftover food, sternly warning Zhou Tong that he is being played. Zhou Tong insists their feelings have grown real, but his father dismisses it as childish naivete.
In stark contrast, Shi Diandian's evening with Xu Tian is filled with genuine warmth. She reveals she secretly retrieved the "Legend of the White Snake" performance tickets he had thrown away. Furthermore, she has booked flights to Beijing for them both. Her intention is simple and pure: to accompany him to see his late mother's favorite show. Deeply moved, Xu Tian lets her stay the night in his mother's old room.
The next morning, an insecure Zhou Tong seeks reassurance from Wen Xiaoyao, who confirms her feelings are true. However, when Zhou Tong goes to speak with Qiao Mi, she shatters his confidence by showing him a shocking video.
