A Wedding Crasher, a Faked Death, and a New Beginning

Episode 1 of A Forbidden Marriage begins with what's supposed to be a happy occasion: the wedding of Yuan Yingxing, the leader of the Sheng Yue Cult, and a woman named Yao Fu.But just as they're about to complete the ceremony, another woman, Wang Yue, shows up to crash the party.

Wang Yue, who is the Holy Maiden of the very same cult, is furious that Yuan Yingxing is marrying someone else, especially since their entire cult is now surrounded by several major sects. These sects believe Yuan Yingxing kidnapped Yao Fu and are ready to attack.A man named Yang Qing from the Cloud Sect Sect tries to talk everyone down, but it doesn't work.To make matters worse, a rumor spreads that Yao Fu has opened a side gate, planning to betray the cult from within.

Back inside, Wang Yue confronts Yao Fu, accusing her of having ulterior motives. Yao Fu plays the victim, which only makes Yuan Yingxing more determined to protect and marry her. He rushes off to fight the invading sects, leaving his bride-to-be and his old flame behind.

This is when Yao Fu drops the innocent act. She and Wang Yue get into a fight, and Yao Fu uses some kind of illusionary trick to defeat Wang Yue, stabbing her and sending her falling off a cliff.Yang Qing arrives just in time to witness her fall, unable to do anything.

But plot twist! Wang Yue isn't dead. She wakes up in a strange bed, still in a wedding dress, with no idea what's going on. A matchmaker rushes in and shoves her into a bridal sedan, telling her she's being married off to a rich old man named Master Chen. She’s relieved to be alive but learns her identity has completely changed. She's now called Yang Wangyue, an orphan being sold off by her uncle. To top it all off, when she tries to use her martial arts to escape, she realizes her powers are completely gone.

While trying to escape the Chen household, she sets a fire, which attracts the attention of none other than Yang Qing. After a clumsy escape attempt, she faints right into his arms. We learn that Yang Qing is in town investigating a case of missing children.

Later, Wang Yue runs into Fan Hao, a protector from her old cult. She initially thinks he's a traitor, but he tells her the devastating news: the Sheng Yue Cult has been destroyed. However, he gives her a sliver of hope by revealing that two other members, Ling Yin and Ming Yang, were away during the attack and survived. Crucially, Fan Hao recognizes Wang Yue, confirming she's not the only one left who knows the truth.
