A Hero Falls and a Vulture Rises

The season kicks off on a heavy note. Hong Kong gets hit with a massive flood. SNK News anchor George Leung is out there reporting live. He dies while saving someone on camera. It’s a tragic, heroic end.

Back at the SNK News office, they're planning his memorial service. The new top boss is a guy named Koo Chiu-wah. You can tell right away he’s a piece of work. They play a video of George winning a journalism award. In the clip, George gives a special thank you to Man Wai-sam. Chris hates this. He immediately orders his team to re-edit the video.

Chris isn't really mourning George. He sees this memorial as his own personal PR event. He wants to use it to launch his career as the new director. He demands his team produce a totally unique, exclusive story for the day. You can see his staff can't stand him. But he's the boss, so they do what they're told.

The Ghosts of SNK News

Man Wai-sam Watches from the Sidelines

So, where is Man Wai-sam during all this? She’s not at the office. She drives to the spot where George died. She quietly leaves a single paper crane for him. Her friend, Chan Tsz-kit, is with her. He thinks she should go to the memorial. Man Wai-sam refuses. She knows it’s just a promotional stunt for Chris and wants no part of it.

As they're about to leave, a young reporter named Poon Ji-ngo runs up to her. He starts firing off aggressive questions. Man Wai-sam knows instantly that Chris sent this kid to ambush her. She completely shuts him down with a few sharp sentences. Poon is left speechless. Tsz-kit actually feels bad for him. He tells Poon to just film their car driving away. At least that gives him something to bring back to his boss.

Cathy's Awkward Memorial

Cheung Ka-yin is now the deputy director at SNK. She’s running the live broadcast from the memorial. Things get uncomfortable for her fast. A citizen comes up to her asking for a photo. The person thinks she’s Man Wai-sam. Cathy is clearly annoyed but just goes with it.

Then the family drama starts. George's parents are in the front row. They refuse to be near Cathy. We learn she was involved in the reason George got divorced years ago. Cathy gets the message. She retreats to the control room to manage the broadcast from there.

A Mysterious Warning

During the service, a flower basket is delivered. The card is signed by an "Old Comrade." It doesn't offer condolences. Instead, it says George's death is suspicious. It demands that the truth must be found. This definitely gets people talking. Man Wai-sam is watching the live stream from Tsz-kit's auto shop. She starts wondering who could have sent it.

An After-Hours Confrontation

The memorial finally ends. The hall is empty. Cathy walks up to George's portrait alone. She seems to be thinking about their past relationship. She feels a lot of guilt. She completely breaks down and starts sobbing.

Suddenly, she hears footsteps. Man Wai-sam has arrived. She walks up to the portrait and scolds it, saying George wasn't careful enough. Then she spots Cathy's work ID on the floor. She calls Cathy out. The two former rivals face each other. The tension is still there.

Then, a third person shows up. It's Hui Sze-ching. She's carrying a bottle of red wine to pay her own respects. Seeing them both there, she just pours three glasses. The three of them, enemies and rivals, just stand there drinking wine in front of their dead colleague's portrait. It's a wild scene.

Lau Yim, another reporter, is trying to figure out who sent the flowers. She comes back to the memorial hall and finds the three women drinking. She asks them who the "Old Comrade" is. They all just stare at her. They can't believe how naive she is. Cathy tells her to think before she speaks. Lau Yim is confused. She brings up the "Tomato Girl" incident from six months ago. She thought they all made peace back then. They shut her down again, telling her not to assume she understands their relationships.

The Right Moment to Strike

Life at SNK is going downhill fast. Poon Ji-ngo tells another anchor not to work too hard. Chris, the new boss, only cares about clicks and traffic. He doesn't care about quality journalism. At a morning meeting, Cathy asks for story pitches. Almost no one is prepared.

Man Wai-sam watches the news every day from the auto shop. She sees how bad it's getting. Tsz-kit tells her she clearly misses it. He says she should just go back to SNK. Man Wai-sam admits she wants to. She's just waiting for the right opportunity.

That opportunity arrives. An old building in Yuen Long suddenly collapses. You can see the fire light up in Man Wai-sam's eyes. This is her moment.

Chaos at the Collapse

Cathy rushes to the collapse site to lead the coverage. Chris gets back to the office and demands they go live immediately. An employee warns him the footage might be too graphic. Chris doesn't care about getting fined. He sees the disaster as a business opportunity. He even tells his team to run more insurance ads during the coverage.

Lau Yim gets to the scene but can't get a good shot. She sends up a news drone to get aerial footage. Cathy has the same idea. Soon, the sky above the rescue operation is filled with competing news drones.

Hazel arrives with a government official. She declares that the drones are interfering with the rescue. She gives an order to jam all their signals. The drones start falling out of the sky. The reporters are furious and confront her. After the tense interview, her boss completely throws her under the bus. He says jamming the signals was her idea alone. He also criticizes her for bringing wine to George's memorial. He tells her to go write a formal self-criticism report.
