In the Name of Justice, Episode 11 Recap: All Hope Goes Up in Smoke

Just when Hong Liang's team thought they had a solid lead, their investigation into Qiao Zhenxing's death is deliberately sabotaged, sending them back to square one. Meanwhile, a brutal power struggle for control of a local freight company turns bloody, proving that the conspiracy the prosecutors are fighting has a violent grip on the city of Dongping.

A Crime Scene Wiped Clean

The episode opens with investigators Hong Liang and Qiao Feng zeroing in on the Jinhai Karaoke Bar. They successfully identify the private room where the video of a dying Qiao Zhenxing was filmed. But their breakthrough is short-lived; the scene has been professionally scrubbed, and all key physical evidence is gone. Realizing the water Qiao drank might be their last hope, Hong Liang contacts prosecutor Zheng Yaping, requesting a water sample comparison from the provincial lab. If it matches the residue in Qiao's system, they can definitively place him at the karaoke bar—the primary crime scene.

A Desperate Race for the Body

Fearing the original autopsy evidence has been tampered with, Zheng Yaping makes a bold call: they need a second autopsy. With Qiao Zhenxing’s cremation scheduled for 10 a.m. the next day, the clock is ticking. She arranges for a refrigerated truck from the provincial authorities to secretly transfer the body immediately after the memorial service. The plan hinges on one person: Qiao's grieving widow, Zhou Mei.

Zheng Yaping visits Zhou Mei that night, but the widow is adamant, pleading for them to stop the investigation. The plea falls on deaf ears, but so does Zheng's counter-argument, and she leaves without securing consent.

Hostile Takeover

Elsewhere, the Wan family's troubles escalate. Their loyal employee, Chen Youcai, arrives at the Wan Hong freight station to find their coal supply being forcibly seized by the thuggish Wang Yu and his crew. Chen is unceremoniously kicked out, and with Wan Hong powerless to stop it, a defeated Chen prepares to leave the city for good. When the hot-headed Wan Chao hears the news, he flies into a rage, vowing to take back what belongs to his family.

A Fiery Betrayal at the Crematorium

In a surprising turn, Zhou Mei has a change of heart in the dead of night and agrees to the second autopsy. Hong Liang and his colleague immediately race to the crematorium. Their journey is suspiciously halted by a car accident blocking the road, forcing Hong Liang to abandon his vehicle and sprint the rest of the way.

It’s a setup. The mole, Li Renjun, has already tipped off his accomplice, Xie Hongfei. They arrive at the crematorium first and try to pressure Zhou Mei into changing her mind again. But she stands firm, cryptically telling them she "has a key clue."

As the 10 a.m. memorial service begins, the crematorium delivers devastating news: workers Lei Guangfa and Zhang Shuang have made a "mistake." Qiao Zhenxing's body has already been cremated. The crucial evidence is gone forever. Zhou Mei collapses in grief, and a winded Hong Liang arrives just in time to watch his entire case go up in smoke.

Cracks in the Conspiracy

The antagonists are also feeling the pressure. The powerful Cheng Zijian, suspecting Wanhai (currently in a detention center) of leaking information to Zheng Yaping, confronts him. He orders Wanhai to feign illness to avoid the investigators. Wanhai’s sharp retort makes Cheng Zijian realize he has accused the wrong man, and he offers a hollow apology. Meanwhile, the police take the two crematorium workers into custody, quickly discovering that one of them, Lei Guangfa, has a gambling problem—a perfect motive for taking a bribe.

A Bloody Battle for a Company Seal

Fueled by rage, Wan Chao gathers his men and storms the freight station to retrieve the company's official seal—a symbol of ownership. They are met with brutal force by Wang Yu's crew. In the ensuing brawl, Wan Chao is badly injured, and Wang Yu not only reclaims the seal but also demands compensation for the damages.

The Mole Unmasked

Back at the crematorium, a distraught Zhou Mei refuses to accept her husband's ashes, turning her anger on Hong Liang. "None of this would have happened if you hadn't pushed for another autopsy!" she screams. Her words trigger a sudden realization for Hong Liang: the only person he told about Zhou Mei's last-minute change of heart was Li Renjun.

Hong Liang confronts Li Renjun on the spot and checks his phone, finding a call log that proves he contacted Xie Hongfei. When Hong Liang tries to see Xie's call history, Xie refuses, and the two investigators come to blows. Li Renjun breaks up the fight, his authority clear. In a final twist, Li Renjun orders a fuming Xie Hongfei to "invite Hong Liang's team back" and clean up the mess, revealing a complex and sinister power dynamic among the conspirators.
