Plot Synopsis

"Footprints of Change": One House, Three Generations of Tough Women

This show, "Footprints of Change" (Original name: 足迹), is straightforward. It’s about three generations of women living through three different eras, all centered around an old house in Shanghai. The show is directed by Zhang Silin and stars Tong Yao, Cheng Lei, Liu Yijun, Lin Yun, and Wang Herun.

The story kicks off in the 1930s in the Shanghai French Concession.

First upis Lin Siyun (played by Lin Yun). She returns from studying abroad, dreaming of opening a maternity hospital. She gets home to a disaster. Her father is dead, her brother is deepin debt, and her fiancé has betrayed her.On topof that, a gangster's lawyer, Cheng Ao (played by Cheng Lei), is knocking at her door for money. She doesn't back down and manages to open the hospital. But soon after, the war against Japan starts. She and the lawyer, Cheng Ao, go from being adversaries to allies, fighting for the same cause.

Fast forward to the 1950s. The house is now a clothing factory.The second woman is Lin Siyun's niece, Yi Yi (played by Tong Yao).She wants to be a fashion designer, but her identity as the widow of a KMT officer makes life difficult. She then meets aParty cadre named WenPu (played by Liu Yijun). During a time ofpublic-privatepartnerships, she finds herprofessional footing and develops a restrained romance with him.

Then comes the 1990s. The house has been turned into a hotel.The third generation is Yi Yi's granddaughter, Ye Xining (played by Wang Herun). She has a stable government job but gets dragged into a conspiracy while helping a friend with her weddingplans and loses her job.With nothing left, she dives into the business world. She meets Xiang Beichuan (played by Yang Le), who has also been hit hard by the same incident.Together, they navigate the rough waves of China's economic reforms.

The whole series is about watching these three women survive and make something of themselves in their respective times. The old house stands as a silent witness to their struggles, resilience, and growth.
