Plot Synopsis
This show has apretty interesting setup. You have a judge, a guy who’s always been by-the-book, and then his son gets into a hit-and-run. Theperson he hits is the son of a major gang leader.Things get complicated fast. Does the dad save his son or uphold the law? He's suddenly standing on the edge of a cliff.
The story is set in the 1990s in a city called Hao-Kong, a time before surveillance cameras were everywhere, which gives theplot a lot of room to maneuver.Nick Cheungplays the judge, Qin Yu. He was once a respected, uncompromising figure whopersonally sent a gang boss toprison. But the moment his own son is involved, he loses his footing and starts faking evidence, trying to frame a young car thief for the crime.Watching a symbol of the law fall step-by-stepinto a hole he dug himself is intense.
Myolie Wuplays thepolice inspector, Tang Xuan, who was a trusted colleague of Qin Yu.She's sharp, stubborn, and dedicated to finding the truth. The dynamic of them going from friends to adversaries is another key storyline to watch.
The cast is seriously strong. Nick Cheung hasn't been in a TV series for nearly 20 years, and for his return, he's taken on a role with a lot of internal conflict, which is no easy task. You also have veterans like Michael Tse, NinaPaw, and Eddie Cheung, and just seeing them act together is worth it.Joseph Zengplays the gang leader's other son, who is bent on revenge.
The show is an adaptation of an Israeli series calledKvodo, which was also remade in the U.S. and South Korea asYour Honor. The source material is solid, so it really comes down to how well this version is localized. The drama isn't just about the conflict between fatherly love and justice; it also digs into corruption involving officials, business, and thepolice force, weaving severalplotlines together to make the story more complex.
Overall, it's fast-paced and gripping, throwing the main conflict at you right from the start. It’s a raw look at how a good man can be corrupted and how far a father will go for his son.
